The Position
Investment NSW seeks to appoint a commercial, people-oriented leader as Trade and Investment Commissioner, Greater China. China is NSW’s largest trading partner, and this is a key appointment to advance the State’s interests across several sectors and priorities.
The Commissioner reports to Executive Director, Trade & International (who is based in Sydney) and will oversee a network of two offices (Shanghai and Guangzhou) as well as representatives in Hong Kong SAR and Taipei.
The Commissioner will lead a highly engaged team to facilitate and grow economic opportunities between NSW and Greater China. Providing strategic insight to internal and external stakeholders on matters related to trade, investment, and economic development across the region is central to this role.
The ideal candidate for this locally engaged position is a commercially astute leader who has senior level experience gained within the public sector combined with deep familiarity of Australia (in particularly, NSW) and China. Recognised as being a credible and trusted leader with a track record of building collaborative relationships and delivering results, the appointee will be known for excellent stakeholder engagement and have expertise in trade and investment between NSW and China. Our teams are small so you will be comfortable with being hands-on while also steering the team to great outcomes for NSW.
Evidencing a commitment to accountability and governance, the appointee will ideally demonstrate detailed knowledge in one or more of the NSW Government’s key industry sectors (agrifood, life sciences and health, international education, net zero).
