Senior Java Developer – Enterprise Applications (Contract)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join a high-performing team supporting and enhancing a large enterprise business-critical application platform. The environment includes modern cloud technologies, enterprise Java applications, Oracle databases, and integration services that support key operational functions.
You will work alongside experienced developers and subject matter experts to maintain, enhance, and deliver high-quality software solutions while contributing to ongoing system improvements and operational support.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise-grade Java applications.
- Develop and maintain web-based user interfaces using ReactJS, HTML, and CSS.
- Design logical and physical data models and implement database solutions using Oracle Database.
- Develop database access layers using JPA, Hibernate, and other Object Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks.
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs, SOAP web services, OpenAPI specifications, XML schemas, and related integration components.
- Produce and maintain detailed technical designs, documentation, and solution specifications.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and DevOps processes using Jenkins, Git, Maven, and Ant.
- Participate in software releases, deployments, and production support activities.
- Provide technical advice and support to project stakeholders and leadership.
- Participate in an on-call support roster (after-hours incidents are infrequent).
Essential Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in enterprise Java development.
- Strong experience with:
- Java
- Spring Framework / Spring Boot
- JPA and Hibernate
- REST and SOAP web services
- OpenAPI, XML, JSON, and XSD
- Experience developing front-end applications using ReactJS, HTML, and CSS.
- Strong Oracle database development skills, including data modelling and stored procedures.
- Experience with Unix/Linux environments and Bash scripting.
- Knowledge of Maven lifecycle management, CI/CD practices, automated testing, and system integration testing.
- Experience working with cloud technologies, particularly:
- AWS EC2
- AWS Lambda
- API Gateway
- Amazon S3
- Amazon SQS
- Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation or equivalent)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within an Agile delivery team.
Desirable
- Experience with Java EE.
- Knowledge of reactive programming.
- Experience supporting enterprise integration and messaging solutions.
- Experience working within government or large enterprise environments.
