Key accountabilities:
The Restrictive Practices Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the implementation, monitoring, review, and reporting of restrictive practices across the organisation in line with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements, relevant legislation, organisational policies, and positive behaviour support frameworks.
The role supports participants, families, staff, Behaviour Support Practitioners, and operational teams to ensure restrictive practices are appropriately authorised, monitored, reduced, and eliminated wherever possible. The coordinator is responsible for managing restrictive practice submissions, facilitating panel meetings, maintaining compliance documentation, monitoring reporting obligations, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Restrictive Practice Coordination
- Coordinate and oversee all restrictive practice processes across the organisation.
- Ensure restrictive practices are implemented only were authorised and in accordance with Behaviour Support Plans and legislative requirements.
- Monitor restrictive practice use to ensure participant rights, dignity, and safety are upheld.
- Maintain accurate records of restrictive practices, approvals, consent, authorisations, and review dates.
- Ensure restrictive practices are monitored, reviewed, reduced, and eliminated wherever possible.
NDIS Compliance & Reporting
- Complete and submit restrictive practice notifications and reporting requirements to the NDIS Commission within required timeframes.
- Coordinate and maintain evidence required for NDIS audits, internal audits, and compliance reviews.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes relating to restrictive practices and provide recommendations to management.
- Ensure all documentation aligns with NDIS Practice Standards, Reportable Incident requirements, and state-based authorisation requirements.
- Prepare monthly compliance reports, trend analysis, and risk reports for leadership and governance meetings.
Panel Meetings & Reviews
- Coordinate and facilitate Restrictive Practice Panel Meetings.
- Prepare agendas, participant documentation, risk assessments, behaviour support information, and meeting minutes.
- Track actions arising from panel meetings and ensure completion within required timeframes.
- Coordinate regular reviews of restrictive practices, Behaviour Support Plans, and participant outcomes.
- Liaise with Behaviour Support Practitioners regarding interim and comprehensive Behaviour Support Plans.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with participants, families, Behaviour Support Practitioners, Support Coordinators, SIL teams, and operational managers.
- Support teams to understand restrictive practice requirements and participant safeguards.
- Provide guidance and support to staff regarding restrictive practice documentation, reporting, and implementation requirements.
- Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case reviews where required.
Administrative Duties
- Undertake additional administrative and operational duties as reasonably directed by the direct supervisor or management team to support organisational operations, compliance activities, participant outcomes, and service delivery requirements.
- Assist with the development, review, organisation, and maintenance of children’s services documentation, participant records, compliance documentation, and file setup to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with organisational and legislative requirements.
Essential requirements:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Framework, Restrictive Practices, and Behaviour Support requirements.
- Experience coordinating restrictive practice processes, reporting, or compliance within disability or community services.
- Strong understanding of NDIS Practice Standards, Incident Management, and Reportable Incidents requirements.
- Experience preparing compliance documentation, reports, and maintaining accurate records.
- Strong organisational, time management, and administrative skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders and manage sensitive matters professionally.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Current Working with Children Check (where applicable).
- Current driver’s licence.
Desirable
- Experience working with Positive Behaviour Support frameworks.
- Knowledge of state-based restrictive practice authorisation processes.
