A1 FLOORING AUSTRALIA PTY LTD, trading as A1 Flooring Commercial, is a commercial and industrial flooring company based in Bayswater, Victoria. We provide end-to-end commercial flooring solutions across Victoria, including project take-offs and estimating, flooring specification, material supply, subfloor preparation, installation and final project hand-over. We work closely with builders, contractors, project managers, architects, suppliers and businesses to deliver flooring solutions that meet project specifications, budgets, site conditions and construction schedules.
The Opportunity
A1 Flooring Commercial is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Construction Estimatorto join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. The successful applicant will be responsible for reviewing construction documentation, completing detailed take-offs, determining material and labour requirements, preparing project estimates and cost plans, obtaining supplier pricing, preparing tender submissions and assisting with the commercial assessment of flooring projects through to tender settlement. The position requires strong numerical and analytical skills, sound understanding of construction documentation and commercial flooring requirements, and the ability to accurately determine project costs from architectural drawings, specifications, flooring schedules and site information.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and interpret architectural drawings, floor plans, construction specifications, flooring schedules, tender documents and other project documentation.
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs from architectural plans and project documentation for commercial and industrial flooring projects.
- Calculate flooring areas, material quantities, wastage allowances, labour requirements and other resources required to complete proposed projects.
- Estimate costs associated with flooring materials, adhesives, trims, accessories, subfloor preparation, installation labour, equipment and other project requirements.
- Conduct or assist with site inspections and measurements to verify dimensions, assess existing conditions and identify factors that may affect project pricing.
- Analyze material prices, labour costs, productivity rates and other cost variables when preparing estimates.
- Develop itemized project pricing that clearly identifies material, labour, preparation and installation requirements.
- Prepare and submit competitive tenders and quotations within required submission deadlines.
- Liaise with builders, contractors, architects, project managers, suppliers and clients to clarify project requirements and obtain information required for accurate estimating.
- Maintain accurate records of estimates, supplier quotations, tender documentation, pricing schedules and supporting calculations.
- Assist management in evaluating tender opportunities, project viability and potential commercial risks.
- Recommend alternative materials, specifications or construction methods where appropriate to achieve cost efficiencies while maintaining required project standards.
- Ensure estimates and tender submissions are prepared accurately and in accordance with company procedures, project specifications and applicable construction requirements.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Relevant professional experience in construction estimating, building estimating or a comparable estimating position.
- Experience within commercial flooring, commercial fit-outs, interior construction or a related construction environment will be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, floor plans, specifications, schedules and tender documentation.
- Experience preparing construction estimates, cost plans, quantity take-offs, quotations and tender submissions.
- Strong understanding of construction materials, labour requirements, project costs and estimating principles.
- Ability to accurately calculate quantities and project costs from construction drawings and specifications.
- Experience obtaining and analysing supplier quotations and material pricing.
- Understanding of commercial tendering and tender settlement processes.
- Ability to identify scope gaps, discrepancies, variations and potential cost risks from project documentation.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple estimates and tender deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively with builders, project managers, architects, suppliers, clients and internal project teams.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a broader project team.
- Knowledge of commercial construction processes, workplace health and safety requirements and relevant Australian construction practices.
