About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Legal, APAC, you will be the primary legal support for the Australia and New Zealand business, working closely with stakeholders across Operations, Product, Marketing, Finance, HR, and Risk and Compliance.
This is a true in-house generalist role, offering exposure to a broad range of legal matters, including commercial contracting, consumer law, privacy, employment, intellectual property, competition law, corporate governance, disputes and regulatory compliance. You will provide practical, commercially focused legal advice that enables the business to achieve its strategic objectives while appropriately managing legal risk.
You will have the opportunity to take ownership of a diverse portfolio of day-to-day legal matters while working collaboratively with the wider APAC Legal team on complex, cross-border and strategic initiatives. The role offers significant variety, business exposure and opportunities for professional growth within an international legal team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide timely, practical and commercially focused legal advice to the Australia and New Zealand business across a broad range of legal and regulatory matters
- Draft, review and negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements, including merchant, supplier, independent contractor, technology, marketing, partnership, confidentiality and service agreements
- Advise on legal issues relating to consumer protection, privacy and data protection, intellectual property, competition law, employment, marketing, e-commerce, payments and general commercial law
- Partner with business teams to support new products, commercial initiatives, strategic partnerships and operational projects by identifying legal risks and recommending pragmatic solutions
- Assist with the management of disputes, complaints, regulatory enquiries, investigations and litigation, including coordinating with external counsel where appropriate
- Support the implementation and maintenance of legal compliance frameworks, internal policies, templates and playbooks
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments across Australia and New Zealand and provide practical guidance on business impacts
- Deliver legal training and compliance awareness initiatives to business stakeholders
- Support corporate governance matters and other strategic or regional legal projects as required
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the business and act as a trusted legal adviser
About You
Essential
- Admitted to practise law in Australia.
- Approximately 4–6 years' post-qualification experience (PQE), gained in a reputable law firm, an in-house legal team, or a combination of both.
- Strong experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements.
- Broad legal knowledge with the ability to advise across multiple areas of law in a commercial environment.
- Excellent legal analysis, drafting and problem-solving skills.
- Commercially minded, pragmatic and capable of balancing legal risk with business objectives.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the business.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Fluent English language skills, with professional working proficiency in Mandarin (written and spoken) to effectively collaborate with regional stakeholders and review bilingual legal and commercial documentation.
Desirable
- Experience in the technology, e-commerce, marketplace, logistics or food delivery industry.
- Familiarity with Australian and New Zealand legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience advising on consumer law, privacy, employment, workplace health and safety, competition law or regulatory compliance.
- Experience supporting cross-border or regional business operations.
