The Opportunity:
The Food Technologist role is a key role supporting SPC Global’s growing business ambition across a multi-category, diverse portfolio that services a wide-ranging customer base. The role will support the broader R&D & Technical Services team through providing support on business systems & processes whilst leading product development projects from concept to commercialisation in local & global markets, bringing global flavour and product trends to life in consumer products.
In the role you will work closely with Sales, Operations & Quality to understand B2B customer needs, creating product solutions to meet those needs, at the right cost and to agreed timeframes.
This is a broad and challenging role which will be require you to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to influence business growth and drive profit through fruit preparation product development.
The Food Technologist must maintain the expert knowledge necessary to make sound technical decisions and develop and approve specifications associated with product development. Products must meet quality, regulatory, and financial targets.
As a core member of the NPD & Technical Services team, this role will also advise and influence others, lead & support nominated projects, role model the SPC culture and behaviours required to establish a proactive and outcome focused NPD environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- New product development from ideation through to implementation and launch

At ideation phase, work with commercial business leaders to explore the consumer and customer insights and translate into quality product & Packaging solutions for B2B customers

Develop products & packaging that meet quality, regulatory, financial and launch targets and are technically feasible in the supply chain network

Rapid prototyping of product design options to assesses customer acceptance using appropriate research methods

Develop experimental trial plans to test and validate new products

Develop and implement product & packaging specifications across the portfolio and ensure specifications are maintained practically & via internal systems, processes & controls

Proactively explore flavour trends and appropriate technologies to create innovative products for B2B customers relevant to our portfolio & innovation pipeline

Participate in innovation workshops with key B2B customers bringing flavour and fruit innovation to them

Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders to identify product, packaging and process cost savings opportunities

Develop and deliver annual cost savings plans

Engagement with NPD team and external and internal stakeholders to drive outcomes

Develop cross functional relationships and processes with suppliers and customers to proactively explore food trends and realise cost savings opportunities

Continually drive own personal development through application of robust development plan
The successful candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in food technology or related Technology

Certification relating to Approval Persons Course for Thermal Processing of Low Acids Foods advantageous

Strong written and verbal communication, planning and organisation skills

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Capable of working independently and staying organized while assuming multiple responsibilities and tasks

Preferably 2 – 5 years’ experience working in food technologist or QA roles
