Chef
The Shearing Shed | Phillip Island
At The Shearing Shed, you'll be responsible for leading our kitchen operations and delivering exceptional food experiences for weddings and events in one of Victoria's most unique hospitality settings.
We're a family-owned venue on Phillip Island that hosts a variety of events including weddings, parties, funerals, private events and more. Our food is prepared in-house and plays a significant role in the experience we deliver to our clients. We pride ourselves on delivering authentic country style hospitality and showcasing our modern Australian menu featuring fresh flavours and stunning presentation.
We're looking for someone who can take ownership of that responsibility and make it their own.
About the Role
This is a hands-on role that combines cooking and kitchen management.
You'll be responsible for:
- Preparing and executing wedding and event catering
- Menu development
- Food costing and budget management
- Ordering and supplier management
- Stock control and waste minimisation
- Kitchen cleaning and maintenance reporting
- Food safety compliance and record keeping
- Maintaining council and regulatory requirements
- Managing prep schedules and event execution
- Training and supervising casual kitchen staff
- Contributing ideas and innovations to improve our food offering and business
While you'll have the support of casual kitchen staff and dish hands during events, this role will often operate independently.
About You
You are:
- A qualified chef with strong all-round cooking skills
- Confident in preparing meat, seafood, vegetables, salads, sauces and desserts
- Organised and highly self-motivated
- Able to work independently without constant supervision
- Calm under pressure and capable of managing multiple priorities
- Commercially minded and aware of food costs, margins and efficiencies
- Passionate about quality and consistency
- Someone who takes pride in running a clean, compliant kitchen
Most importantly, you're the type of person who sees opportunities rather than problems and enjoys being part of a growing business.
What Makes This Role Different
This is not a restaurant role. You'll work in a wedding and events environment where every service matters.
You'll have the opportunity to:
· Be a part of a great team
- Influence menus and food direction
- Contribute ideas to grow the business
- Build systems and processes
- Work closely with ownership
- Deliver food that genuinely becomes part of people's most important life events
If you're looking for a role where your input matters (without the gruelling restaurant standard 6 nights a week) we'd love to hear from you.
Hours & Employment
Permanent Part-Time Position, Casual, or Subcontract as negotiated.
Hours will fluctuate throughout the year in line with our event calendar, with increased hours expected during peak wedding season.
