Senior Corporate Governance, Policy & Risk Officer
Clerk Grade: 9/10
Annual Salary Range: $129,464 - $142,665 plus superannuation

We are seeking an experienced Senior Corporate Governance Policy & Risk Officer to join the Independent Review Office (IRO). In this pivotal role, you will deliver specialist risk, governance and policy expertise to strengthen organisational assurance, support compliance, and minimise risk exposure.
You will work closely with stakeholders across the business to embed a strong risk culture, provide trusted advice, and lead initiatives that enhance governance frameworks, systems and controls.

The Independent Review Office (IRO) is an independent statutory body in NSW that plays a critical role in the personal injury system. The IRO helps injured workers and motor vehicle accident claimants resolve disputes with insurers and provides legal funding to support claimants in navigating complex processes.

What you’ll do
In this role, you will:

Provide specialist advice, manage complex applications and support the Department’s statutory responsibilities under the GIPA Act and Privacy Information Disclosure Act by ensuring compliant, timely and effective decision making, stakeholder engagement and best practice information access processes

Develop and maintain integrated risk and assurance frameworks across business, digital and data environments

Deliver expert advice on governance, risk, compliance and control systems to support organisational objectives

Design, implement and evaluate risk management strategies to minimise exposure, including cyber and data risks

Lead risk and assurance activities, including monitoring, analysis and reporting on control effectiveness

Identify emerging risks and provide recommendations to strengthen controls and business processes

Lead and contribute to projects that improve governance, risk maturity and organisational resilience

Build strong stakeholder relationships and promote a proactive risk management culture across the organisation
What we’re looking for
You will bring:
-
Experience in risk management, governance, audit, compliance, cyber security or fraud control within a complex environment

Experience in GIPA and Privacy Information Disclosure processes ensuring compliance and reporting skills to support the agency

Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess risk, interpret data and provide practical, evidence-based advice

Demonstrated ability to influence and engage stakeholders to drive strong risk and governance practices

Experience designing or improving frameworks, controls and assurance processes

Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable insights

A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with sound judgement and high attention to detail
