Primary objective
Provide operational and administrative support to the development and implementation of wildlife management programs,
and the effective application of the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Assist in the effective delivery of wildlife management programs, including saltwater crocodiles and venomous snakes.
2. Contribute positively to a small team using good communication skills, interpersonal skills and a professional attitude.
3. Assist in law enforcement and compliance activities at the direction of senior staff with regard to wildlife offences under
the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act.
4. Data entry across a number of computer systems.
5. Answer public complaints and enquiries and carry out public relations work as required.
6. Ensure vehicles and other equipment is maintained and kept in good working order.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. The ability to identify and experience in handling Australian wildlife including reptiles.
2. Good telephone manner and ability to communicate effectively with members of the public and other stakeholders.
3. Demonstrated interpersonal skills to function effectively as a team member.
4. Well-developed organisational skills to complete tasks as directed efficiently and to a high standard.
5. Ability to prepare written reports and enter data using word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
6. Physically fit with an ability to conduct fieldwork effectively and safely with minimal supervision.
7. Current Senior First Aid Certificate, NT drivers license and NT Firearms Licence or the ability to obtain.
Desirable
1. Certificate II in Government (Investigations) or compliance and enforcement experience, particularly in relation to
wildlife management issues
2. Certificate II or above relating to animal husbandry and handling or land conservation.
