Northern Star Surface Mining (NSSM) is the surface mining division of Northern Star Resources, established to strengthen our in-house mining capability and deliver safe, productive and sustainable surface mining operations.
As NSSM continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Safety Superintendent to join our Corporate team in Subiaco.
This is a newly created role offering the opportunity to make an immediate impact across our operations. We are looking for someone who brings strong site-based operational experience, particularly within surface production mining and mobile maintenance, combined with demonstrated expertise in safety management systems, auditing, risk and assurance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop internal audit schedules, assurance tools and verification processes across NSSM operations.
- Conduct operational and contractor verification and assurance audits.
- Develop, review and refine safety management system processes and support implementation with site teams.
- Support the development and rollout of safety initiatives across the NSSM business.
- Drive standardisation of safety objectives, targets and processes across NSSM projects.
- Provide support and oversight of operational risk management and change management processes.
- Oversee end-of-month safety reporting and identify opportunities to streamline reporting.
- Coach and mentor leaders and personnel to strengthen safety capability and performance.
- Support the facilitation of ICAM investigations and undertake quality reviews of completed investigations.
- Build strong working relationships across corporate and operational leadership teams.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.
- Strong operational safety experience within mining, ideally across surface production and mobile maintenance.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing OHS management systems and processes.
- Experience in auditing, risk assessment, assurance and change management.
- ICAM Lead Investigator qualification.
- Lead Auditor qualifications will be highly regarded.
- Strong working knowledge of INX systems.
- SharePoint experience will be advantageous.
- Current unrestricted Western Australian C Class Driver’s Licence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently and use initiative.
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport, coach others and positively influence stakeholders at all levels.
