About the Opportunity
Edward Jacobs is currently working with a growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy in Sydney that is looking to appoint a Forensic Engineer to support the continued growth of its NSW operation.
This role is suited to an engineer with experience in forensic engineering, building investigations and property assessments, who enjoys combining technical analysis with site inspections, client communication and detailed report writing.
The successful candidate will take ownership of investigations from the initial brief through to the final report, working with clients, contractors and external technical specialists to identify issues and develop practical engineering solutions.
The majority of work will involve residential properties and insurance-related assessments, with some exposure to commercial buildings and warehouses.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct property and site inspections
- Investigate building and structural issues
- Review drawings, plans and other relevant documentation
- Identify and assess defects and engineering issues
- Apply fundamental engineering principles to determine causes and appropriate solutions
- Liaise with clients, contractors and external consultants
- Coordinate with specialist suppliers where required, including geotechnical and concrete scanning providers
- Prepare detailed technical forensic reports
- Manage investigations from initial brief through to final reporting
- Prepare quotations and communicate with clients throughout the investigation process
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers as you progress within the business
About You
We are looking for a Forensic Engineer with:
- 3+ years of relevant forensic engineering experience, with 5+ years preferred
- Experience conducting property and site inspections
- Strong technical report writing skills
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals and first-principles problem solving
- Ability to independently investigate engineering issues and develop practical solutions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A proactive and accountable approach
- Ability to take ownership of projects and investigations
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment
Experience with residential buildings, insurance assessments, commercial structures or building defect investigations will be highly regarded.
