We’re looking for a hands-on Production Coffee Roaster to join the Fonzie Abbott team.
This role is primarily focused on coffee roasting, production machinery operation and equipment maintenance, working closely with our Warehouse and Production teams to keep the roastery running smoothly and production on track.
We’re looking for someone with coffee industry experience who is passionate about coffee, mechanically minded, reliable and happy to get their hands dirty. You’ll be involved across the day-to-day running of the roastery, from roasting and operating production equipment to maintenance, cleaning, stock movement, packing and general production support.
This is a busy, physical role where everyone jumps in when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Coffee Roasting
- Roast coffee according to established profiles and production requirements.
- Operate and monitor roasting equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain consistency across roast batches and ensure quality standards are met.
- Accurately record roast and production information.
- Prepare green coffee and materials required for daily roasting.
Machinery & Equipment
- Operate production, packing and grinding equipment safely and correctly.
- Carry out routine cleaning, inspections and preventative maintenance.
- Identify and troubleshoot equipment issues where possible and report faults or breakdowns promptly.
- Assist with adjustments, repairs and improvements to production equipment where required.
- Keep machinery and production areas clean, organised and operating efficiently.
Production & Warehouse
- Assist across the daily coffee production and packing process.
- Move green coffee, packaging and finished products throughout the warehouse.
- Assist with receiving, storing and rotating green coffee and production materials.
- Support stock movements and inventory organisation.
- Assist with wholesale, retail and online order preparation and dispatch during busy periods.
- Jump in across other production and warehouse tasks when required to keep things moving.
About You
We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work and understands that great coffee relies on consistency, attention to detail and a well-run production environment.
You will:
- Have previous experience in the coffee industry and a good understanding of specialty coffee.
- Ideally have previous coffee roasting or production experience. Alternatively, you may have strong specialty coffee knowledge and be ready to step into a roasting role.
- Be mechanically minded and comfortable using basic tools.
- Be comfortable with physical work, including lifting and moving bags of coffee and other materials.
- Have strong attention to detail and a focus on quality and consistency.
- Be reliable, punctual and willing to take ownership of your work.
- Be comfortable following established processes and production requirements.
- Be able to identify problems and communicate them clearly.
- Be a team player who is willing to help wherever needed.
- Understand that cleaning and maintaining equipment is a critical part of working in a production roastery.
- Have a positive attitude and willingness to learn.
A forklift licence is a plus, but not essential.
What to Expect
This is a genuinely hands-on production position. The majority of your time will be spent roasting coffee, operating and maintaining machinery and supporting daily production.
It’s suited to someone who enjoys the technical and practical side of coffee, likes working with machinery and wants to be part of the process that takes coffee from green bean through to finished product.
Pay: $32.00 – $40.00 per hour
Expected hours: 38.0 per week
