Primary objective
The Attendant as directed, provides general support to the Administrator of the Northern Territory and Government House Estate by way
of driving the Administrator and spouse to official engagements, maintaining all vehicles as well as providing general maintenance of the
gardens, minor repairs and maintenance of the buildings, furniture and equipment at Government House Estate comprising Government
House and the Offices of the Administrator of the Northern Territory. 005017
Context statement
The Office of the Official Secretary ensures the Administrator is provided with all necessary supports to exercise their statutory and
constitutional responsibilities and fulfil their official, ceremonial and broad civic duties of office. The Attendant is required to be available
outside of normal business hours, including weekends and sometimes at short notice. (Penalty payments apply). When not undertaking
driving duties, the role is required to carry out various general duties of a physical nature, often outdoors.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Drive the Administrator of the Northern Territory and spouse to official engagements during and outside of normal business hours.
2. Plan driving routes and provide advice on travelling and departure times.
3. Monitor vehicle servicing intervals, arrange for repairs, servicing, delivery and collection and cleaning of official vehicles.
4. Provide a courier service for the delivery and pick up of mail, packages, gifts and dry cleaning and purchase goods as required
5. Provide grounds and garden maintenance, minor building maintenance and cleaning services for the Government House Estate and
assist in the set-up and pack down of equipment for functions as directed.
6. Maintain the workshop area in a safe, clean and tidy condition ensuring all tools and equipment are maintained and accounted for.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience as a chauffeur, with proven sound driving abilities and current Northern Territory drivers licence.
2. High standard of grooming and presentation with personal qualities of reliability, integrity, discretion and attention to detail.
3. Experience working in an environment where high level protocol and confidentiality must be observed and the ability to communicate
effectively and courteously with the public and private sectors, including people from diverse cultures.
4. Experience with small fleet management and minor vehicle maintenance.
5. Ability to work outside normal hours of employment and react quickly and positively to changing requirements.
6. Basic computer skills to enable electronic diary access and processing of corporate credit card transactions.
7. Demonstrated ability and experience in the maintenance and presentation of grounds, gardens and lawns to a high standard.
8. Experience with attending to minor building repairs and maintenance.
9. Demonstrated knowledge and experience of the operation, maintenance and repair of a wide range of horticultural equipment and
machinery.
10. Willingness to multi-skill and work as part of a small team as well as having the ability to work with minimal supervision.
11. Sound organisational skills with the proven ability to work independently through initiative and sound judgement to resolve problems.
12. Knowledge and willingness to work within Work Health and Safety guidelines.
Desirable
1. Training in defensive driving
2. Chainsaw Operator’s Certificate, Test and Tag licence or ability to obtain
Further information
The successful applicant will be required to undergo reference checks, a criminal history check and any appointment is subject to a
satisfactory National Police Record check. The successful applicant will be required to have a current NT Driver’s Licence and hold a
current Ochre card or be willing to obtain one.
Furthermore, to determine capability to perform the inherent physical requirements of the role, the successful applicant will be required
