Primary objective
Oversee the day-to-day management and roster of the paralegal team, allocating cases and ensuring accurate handling of sensitive materials. Act
as the team leader and trainer for paralegals, liaise with stakeholders, e.g. defence lawyers, police, courts, and provide administrative and court
support, with an emphasis on strong people management, information management, and redaction skills.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) operates independently within the Attorney-General’s Department.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Manage day-to-day operations of the paralegal team in conjunction with the Paralegal/PLA Supervisor, including rostering, allocating cases
and workloads among paralegals, and monitoring task progress.
2. Lead and deliver training and onboarding for new paralegals and act as the paralegal supervisor and trainer for the team.
3. Handle sensitive case material, perform redaction and information management tasks, and ensure materials are not improperly disclosed.
4. Liaise and communicate with stakeholders including defence lawyers, police, and courts, and respond to queries and exchange case
information.
5. Provide high level administrative and paralegal advice and support as required and escalate people management or resourcing issues to the
supervisor for decisions, e.g. leave approvals, resource allocation.
6. Understand and adhere to Local Court practice and directions.
7. Manage a range of concurrent activities in a timely and efficient manner, with minimum supervision, ensuring that deadlines are adhered to.
8. Maintain and develop information-management practices such as redaction and identification of confidential information.
9. Act as implementation lead for processes set by the Paralegal/PLA Supervisor.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Strong people management and team leadership skills, including experience working in a high turnover environment and working with a high
number of staff.
2. A high level of information management skills to ensure effective and efficient document handling, redaction, confidentiality and record-
keeping.
3. Practical legal and paralegal knowledge or experience in a similar environment such as court processes and/or case workflows, with an
emphasis on applied skills.
4. Clear written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder engagement and case correspondence, and to communicate effectively at all
levels.
5. Resilience and ability to manage exposure to sensitive or disturbing content.
6. Demonstrated time management and organisational skills, including an ability to prioritise commitments and meet critical deadlines while
maintaining quality standards.
Desirable
1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in law.
2. Knowledge of government systems, practices and legislative processes.
