Harp Teacher (New Program Launch)
The Plucked String – Southbank, Melbourne
The Plucked String is expanding its horizons! Known for our vibrant string community, we are launching a brand-new Harp Program. We are seeking a passionate, entrepreneurial Harp Teacher to spearhead and grow this exciting new offering within our studio.
As the pioneer of this program, you will have a unique opportunity to build our harp department from the ground up—shaping the curriculum, guiding students through foundational and advanced harp techniques.
We are an established, community-focused music studio with a strong student base across world and plucked string instruments. Our students range from young beginners to adult learners, and we are thrilled to expand our community to include dedicated harp education.
About the Role
- Casual contractor position with clear room to grow as the program expands
- Ground-floor opportunity to build and shape a brand-new harp department
- Flexible scheduling (weekdays and/or weekends)
- One-on-one private lessons with potential for future group classes, harp ensembles, and workshops
- Collaborative crossover opportunities with our existing plucked string ensembles
- Teaching on-site from our Southbank studio near the CBD
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
- Is excited to build and nurture a brand-new instrumental program from scratch
- Is confident teaching Lever and/or Pedal Harp across various age groups and skill levels
- Has a strong background in harp repertoire, classical technique, sight-reading, and pedagogy
- Can engage children, teenagers, and adult learners with enthusiasm and tailored approaches
- Possesses strong communication, organization, and self-starter skills
- Holds relevant tertiary qualifications in music performance/pedagogy and/or equivalent professional experience
- Holds a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) and Public Liability Insurance (or willingness to obtain)
Desirable (But Not Essential)
- Experience launching new studio programs, ensemble initiatives, or workshop series
- Ability to teach music theory, ear training, and standard exam syllabus preparation (e.g., AMEB)
- Skills in arranging or composing for harp ensembles and multi-string groups
- Mandarin-speaking ability highly regarded
