Christie Civil is a Sydney-based civil and structural construction contractor with more than 40 years in the industry and over 100 completed projects. We deliver end-to-end civil and structural works including project management, traffic management, roads and pavements, bridges and structures, stormwater and services, and earthworks and subdivisions. The Role
Reporting to the Project Manager & Site Supervisor, the Civil Engineer plans, designs and oversees the construction of civil infrastructure works and provides day-to-day engineering support to our site teams. The position is based in Stanmore and requires regular travel to project sites across Greater Sydney.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Determining construction methods, materials and quality standards, and drafting and interpreting specifications, drawings, plans, construction methods and procedures
● Organising and directing site labour and the delivery of construction materials, plant and equipment, and establishing detailed programs for the coordination of site activities
● Studying architectural and engineering drawings and specifications to estimate total costs, and preparing detailed cost plans and estimates to assist in budgetary control
● Monitoring changes to designs, assessing effects on cost, and measuring, valuing and negotiating variations to designs
● Analysing structural systems for both static and dynamic loads, and designing structures so they do not collapse, bend, twist or vibrate in undesirable ways
● Obtaining soil and rock samples at different depths across sites and testing them to determine strength, compressibility and safe loading of the soil
● Designing and supervising the physical aspects of transport and drainage infrastructure, including roads, pavements, bridges, stormwater and associated services
● Preparing and reviewing ITPs, safe work method statements and technical reports, and ensuring works comply with TfNSW, council and Australian Standards requirements
● Liaising with clients, subcontractors, consultants and authorities, and reporting on program, cost and quality
● Enforcing WHS, environmental and traffic management requirements on site
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
● Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
● Minimum 12 months' relevant post-qualification experience as a Civil Engineer
● Working knowledge of Australian Standards, TfNSW/RMS specifications and council requirements
● Competence with AutoCAD / Civil 3D and Microsoft Office (Excel, Project or similar scheduling software)
● General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
● Current Australian driver's licence and willingness to travel to sites across Greater Sydney
● Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work in a site-based team
Desirable
● Traffic Control / Traffic Management (TfNSW) tickets
● First Aid certificate and Asbestos Awareness training
● Experience on road, bridge, stormwater or subdivision projects
● Eligibility for membership of Engineers Australia
