The Advanced Trainee will provide effective clinical management of patients, working under the supervision of Specialist Cardiologists to care for patients presenting or referred with potential cardiac disease, whilst developing expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. The role includes patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures, maintaining adequate medical records, organising and interpreting appropriate investigations. The Advanced Trainee will medically manage conditions such as acute and chronic coronary disease, heart failure, valvular heart disease including endocarditis, and hypertension, with initial management of arrhythmias and pericardial disease, basic adult congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension, and prevention of heart disease; and undertake supervised general medical management of patients admitted to the Cardiology department. The Advanced Trainee will undertake dedicated terms for procedures including coronary angiography, echocardiography, electrophysiology and other procedural and clinical aspects relevant to Cardiology. The doctor is a key person who works closely with all members of staff and must: Work as part of, and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team. Deal with matters of an urgent or sensitive nature. Must have the ability to exercise discretion, sensitivity and maintain confidentiality. Work co-operatively within a team environment and actively contribute to team activities including pro-actively participating in team meetings and decision making processes. The advanced trainee will be expected to make independent decisions on patient care. They will duly consult with the responsible consultant Cardiologist in a timely manner, according to the clinical urgency.
