We are a growing software development business providing technology solutions to commercial clients. As the business continues to grow, we are seeking a commercially minded lawyer to join us as part-time Legal Counsel and support the company across legal, commercial, governance and risk matters.
This is a practical, hands-on role suited to a lawyer who enjoys working closely with business owners and management, understands commercial realities, and can provide clear, pragmatic legal guidance.
About the Role
We are looking for a Victorian-admitted solicitor to provide in-house legal support to on a permanent part-time basis, 1 day per week.
The role will involve advising the company on general commercial legal matters, with a particular focus on customer matters, dispute management, risk, governance and day-to-day legal issues affecting the business.
This is an in-house role. The successful candidate will provide legal advice and will work closely with the company’s director and management team.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include:
- reviewing, drafting and advising on customer agreements, supplier agreements and related documentation;
- advising on customer disputes, commercial correspondence and dispute-resolution strategy;
- supporting the company in managing legal risk across its software development and technology operations;
- assisting with governance, compliance and internal policy matters;
- providing practical legal input on commercial decisions affecting the business;
- assisting with document management, record keeping and legal process improvements;
- liaising with external lawyers, counsel, insurers or other professional advisers where required;
- helping the company identify when specialist external legal advice is required.
About You
The ideal candidate will be:
- admitted as an Australian legal practitioner, preferably in Victoria;
- the holder of a current practising certificate, or eligible to hold one;
- experienced in business advisory work and/or dispute management;
- commercially minded and able to provide practical, business-focused legal advice;
- comfortable working directly with directors, founders and senior management;
- able to work independently and manage matters with appropriate judgment;
- clear, concise and professional in written and verbal communication.
Experience with software, technology, SaaS, IT services, intellectual property, privacy, data, professional services or commercial litigation would be highly regarded, but is not essential.
Role Structure
This is a permanent part-time role of 1 day per week. The specific working pattern can be agreed with the successful candidate.
The role may suit an experienced lawyer seeking a flexible in-house position alongside other professional commitments.
Remuneration
Remuneration will be negotiated based on experience and availability. BitXify is open to discussing reimbursement of agreed professional costs relevant to the role, such as practising certificate renewal or continuing professional development costs.
