Role Overview
This position aims to support the Coordinator Economic Development and Tourism to grow the Gympie region to be a progressive, diverse and robust economy, underpinned by vibrant communities, a skilled workforce and competitive businesses.
The position contributes to the delivery of both economic development and tourism outcomes, recognising tourism as a key driver of the regional economy and supporting integrated visitor economy and industry development initiatives.
Under the direction of the Coordinator, this position will coordinate the delivery of a region wide economic development strategy and drive the implementation of strategic tourism and destination marketing priorities aligned with Council’s economic development objectives.
Essential Knowledge & Skills:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Tourism, Marketing, Business, Economic Development or a related field, or demonstrated extensive relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in economic development, tourism, and business development that support regional economic outcomes.
- Experience supporting programs or initiatives that deliver economic, tourism or community outcomes, including the preparation of marketing and promotional materials across a range of channels.
- Understanding of economic development principles, including industry development, investment attraction and regional growth.
- Ability to collect, interpret and apply economic and tourism data to inform planning and decision making.
- Demonstrated project coordination skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within required timeframes.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including industry, business and government.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, presentations and correspondence for a range of audiences.
- Proven ability to work independently or in a team in a professional manner with the ability to be tactful and discrete when dealing with matters of a sensitive and confidential nature.
- Proficient in the use of computer software including MS Office suite including processing invoices and monitoring budgets.
- Queensland ‘C’ Class driver’s licence that is current and maintained.
Essential Requirements:
- Support the development, implementation and review of Council’s Economic Development Strategy, Tourism Strategy and/or Destination Management Plan (including associated action plans), ensuring alignment with economic and tourism priorities.
- Assist in the identification and coordination of economic development opportunities across priority industries, including tourism as a key economic driver.
- Support the delivery of tourism and destination development initiatives with broader economic development objectives, including investment attraction, job creation and industry growth.
- Manage implementing economic and destination marketing activities in collaboration with Marketing and Communications and industry partners, ensuring alignment with branding for Visit Gympie Region and Invest Gympie Region.
- Monitor economic, tourism and industry trends, data and performance metrics to inform planning and decision making.
- Manage the development and distribution of economic development and tourism information, collateral and promotional content across relevant platforms.
- Build and maintain relationships with business and tourism operators, regional/local tourism organisations, industry groups and government agencies.
- Provide economic and tourism advice to internal and external stakeholders, including Council departments, industry bodies, Chambers of Commerce and relevant state and federal agencies.
- Coordinate the delivery of economic development and tourism-related programs, projects and initiatives, including events that support visitation and regional economic growth.
- Represent Council in stakeholder meetings and engagement activities as required.
- Coordinate and manage industry engagement and capacity building activities including forums, workshops and partnership initiatives that support regional economic and tourism outcomes.
- Work collaboratively across Council directorates to support integrated economic and tourism development initiatives.
- Prepare high-quality reports, business cases, briefs and presentations on economic development and tourism initiatives for internal stakeholders and Council.
- Assist with grant applications, funding opportunities and business case development where required.
- Track and evaluate the effectiveness of programs, partnerships and campaigns, including economic impact and return on investment.
- Identify opportunities for innovation, process improvement and enhanced service delivery across economic development and tourism functions.
- Perform any other duties that are reasonably within the competency, skills and training of the incumbent.
