We are seeking a dynamic leader to lead the Parkville Breast Service – a joint service between Peter Mac, The Royal Melbourne Hospital and The Women’s Hospital.
The Parkville Breast Service is a world-leading comprehensive Breast service seeking to excel across all spheres of clinical care, research and education. Our patients receive care from specialist Breast Surgeons, Breast Radiologists, Breast Pathologists, Radiation Oncologists, Medical Oncologists and Plastic Surgeons - in association with Specialist Breast Care Nurse Consultants, Psychologists, Social Workers and additional supportive care services. We are closely affiliated with the Familial Cancer Centre and the Breast/Ovarian Cancer Risk Management Clinics at Peter Mac and the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
The Medical Director will be a courageous, visionary leader, responsible for leading and further integrating the breast service across the Precinct. The focus of the role will be on establishing strong leadership, developing clinical governance, supporting world leading research, driving innovation in breast services and proactively seeking creative opportunities to resolve issues. The Director will ignite dedication and trust to nurture a culture of excellence and collaboration while ensuring that the service meets its strategic goals of delivering outstanding care and improving patient outcomes.

This leadership position will guide the Breast Service through operational integration, strategic development, and continuous quality improvement to achieve the 5-year vision of becoming a consolidated, world-class service.

Qualifications
MBBS and fellowship in relevant specialty college
Clinical Experience:
Extensive experience working in a hospital setting with expertise in Breast Cancer.
Demonstrated expertise in leading multidisciplinary teams in a healthcare setting.
Leadership and Management Skills:
Proven leadership experience in a clinical setting, including strategic planning, staff management, and driving organisational development.
Strong ability to inspire, motivate, and guide teams to achieve shared goals.
Quality Improvement and Clinical Governance:
Knowledge of clinical governance frameworks and experience in ensuring compliance with relevant healthcare standards.
Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives.
Patient-Centric Care:
Commitment to delivering patient-centred care with a strong focus on improving patient experience and outcomes.
Experience in implementing value-based healthcare models.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

Key Accountabilities
Leadership and Culture Development:
Provide strong clinical leadership and create a collaborative, multidisciplinary culture that fosters teamwork and mutual respect.
Clinical Governance:
Establish and oversee clinical governance structures, ensuring high-quality, safe and effective care.
Ensure clinical guidelines and best practices are developed/reviewed, implemented, and consistently followed across all areas of the Breast Service.
Service Integration and Strategic Planning:
Lead the development of the Parkville Breast Service’s operating model, ensuring integration
of breast cancer services into a seamless patient journey across the Precinct.
Working closely with the Operations Director and other team leads to ensure the smooth transition to a fully integrated service, aligning with the broader strategic vision.
Workforce planning for the Parkville Breast Service.
Quality Assurance and Improvement:
Lead the development and implementation of quality assurance programs, setting and monitoring KPIs to continuously improve patient care and clinical outcomes.
Ensure that clinical services are continually reviewed and refined based on patient feedback, best practices, and evidence-based care.
Patient Experience and Value-Based Care:
Champion patient-centric care by engaging directly with consumers, ensuring their needs are reflected in service planning and delivery.
Drive initiatives aimed at enhancing patient experience, such as one-stop diagnostic clinics and streamlined access to care.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration:
Chair breast service leadership meetings, fostering collaboration between the leadership team and the wider clinical community.
Oversight of Breast MDMs including appointing a Chair/s.
Maintain effective relationships with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring coordinated and high-quality care delivery.
Resolves conflicts and fosters employee satisfaction.
Liaise with other relevant departments.
Education, Research and Professional Development:
Support the education and training of medical staff, including the selection, supervision, and development of service Fellows and Registrars.
Encourage participation in clinical research and innovation within the Breast Service, contributing to advancements in breast cancer care, working alongside the breast research lead.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Serve as the primary liaison for the Breast Service with internal and external stakeholders, including patient groups, healthcare networks, and research partners.
Clinical oversight of complaints for the Breast Service.
Ensure effective communication with all relevant bodies, including government health departments, consumer groups, and funding organisations.
