The location and community
The town of Fitzroy Crossing is situated on the northern bank of the Fitzroy River, approximately 2700 km from Perth and 400 km east of Broome. The town has a population of approximately 1500 people. The main cultural groups in the Fitzroy Valley are the Bunuba, Gooniyandi, Walmajarri, Nyikina and Wangkatjungka peoples.

The Role
Fitzroy Valley DHS seeks to build its leadership team through the appointment of a committed Program Coordinator. The school prioritises low variance, evidence-based instruction in literacy and numeracy. All teachers access professional learning and Instructional Coaching to support the implementation of school initiatives which are articulated in the school’s instructional framework.
Staff appointed to Fitzroy Valley DHS value personal excellence, respect diversity, and promote an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment. Successful teaching and learning is underpinned by effective evidence-based instruction and trauma-informed practices. This is matched with whole-school alignment of pedagogy, programs, policy and processes. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with the Executive and School Leadership Team, as well as independently, to positively influence student outcomes while maintaining and enhancing current practices. Experience and an understanding of Instructional Coaching, Classroom Management Strategies, Positive Behaviour Support, Targeted Teaching, and Berry Street, along with an established capability to lead in one or more of these areas, are highly desirable qualities in the successful applicant.
This position comprises a 0.5 FTE teaching load alongside the Program Coordinator role. The school is committed to developing aspiring leaders and actively supports a structured middle leadership program. Teachers and school administrators employed at Fitzroy Valley District High School in 2026 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $3 000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
