About the role
Cincotta Discount Chemist Sunshine West is seeking a qualified and experienced Retail Pharmacist to join our community pharmacy on a full-time basis. The successful applicant will provide professional dispensing, medication management and patient counselling services while ensuring compliance with all relevant legislative, regulatory and professional requirements. This position requires strong clinical judgement, attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
Key responsibilities
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
- Reviewing and dispensing prescriptions accurately and in accordance with legal and professional requirements.
- Checking dosages, drug interactions, contraindications and medication suitability.
- Conducting final clinical checks on dispensed medicines and Dose Administration Aids.
- Counselling patients on medication use, side effects, storage and precautions.
- Assessing symptoms and supplying Schedule 2 and Schedule 3 medicines appropriately.
- Providing professional advice on minor ailments, preventative health and non-prescription medicines.
- Maintaining prescription, PBS and controlled-drug records, including Schedule 8 and Schedule 4D registers.
- Communicating with doctors and other healthcare professionals regarding prescriptions and patient care.
- Delivering pharmacy services such as MedsChecks, staged supply and vaccinations where authorized.
- Preparing simple pharmaceutical compounds in accordance with approved guidelines.
- Dispensing and administering opioid dependence treatment medicines in accordance with relevant requirements.
- Using dispensing software, electronic prescriptions, SafeScript and PBS systems.
- Monitoring medicine storage, cold-chain requirements, stock levels and expiry dates.
- Reporting dispensing errors, near misses and medication-related incidents.
- Supervising and supporting pharmacy assistants, interns and dispensary staff.
- Assisting with QCPP compliance and pharmacy quality procedures.
- Able to perform vaccinations and Immunization services.
About you
- A recognized tertiary qualification in Bachelor of Pharmacy
- Current general registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia through AHPRA
- Strong dispensing, clinical checking and patient counselling skills
- Excellent communication, attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Sound knowledge of PBS requirements, controlled medicines and pharmacy legislation
- Current immunization certification, or willingness to obtain it, is desirable
- Current First Aid/CPR certificate is desirable
- Current Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII)
- Relevant community or retail pharmacy experience
- Prior Experience with Dispense Works and Pos Works Desirable
