Position Summary
- To become a member of the Intensive Care trainee pool providing Intensive Care and Retrieval Services (both Pre and Inter-hospital for adult and paediatric patients). Suitable for experienced Intensive Care trainees in their final year of training or post second part College of Intensive Care Medicine (CICM) examination seeking to gain further experience and training in Intensive Care and Retrieval Medicine. The distribution will be 0.5FTE Intensive Care (CICM accredited ICU training) and 0.5FTE Retrieval Medicine (CICM as elective training).

Where you'll be working
The John Hunter Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a Level 6 referral centre for critically ill patients in the Hunter New England, Mid North Coast and Northern NSW Local Health Districts. It is the default centre for Trauma, Neurosurgery, Stroke, Vascular, Cardiothoracic and major General Surgery, as well as Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology. The 796 bed hospital is the main teaching hospital of the University of Newcastle. The hospital contains the only trauma centre in New South Wales outside the Sydney Metropolitan Area and has the busiest Emergency Department in the state. John Hunter is the busiest trauma hospital in the state, and the second busiest in the country.
The Hunter Retrieval Service operates road and helicopter based pre and interhospital retrieval with a doctor-paramedic model based out of Lake Macquarie airport as well as doctor-nurse model based out of The John Hunter Hospital. Trainees will work across both teams and receive training and mentorship from consultants, paramedics and nurses from across the service.
