About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and compassionate Senior Disability Support Worker to join our team and provide high-quality, person-centred support to people living with disability.
This position is suited to an experienced support worker who has a strong understanding of disability support and is confident supporting participants with complex behaviours and higher support needs.
The successful applicant will provide direct support while promoting each participant's dignity, independence, choice, safety and quality of life.
Applicants must have a minimum of 2 years' full-time equivalent experience in disability support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide person-centred support based on each participant's individual needs, goals and preferences
- Support participants with complex behaviours and behaviours of concern
- Follow individual Behaviour Support Plans and established support strategies
- Assist with personal care, hygiene, dressing and other activities of daily living
- Support participants with meal preparation and household tasks where required
- Assist participants to access the community and participate in social and recreational activities
- Support participants to develop and maintain independence and daily living skills
- Provide mobility and manual handling support in accordance with individual requirements
- Provide medication support in accordance with training, care plans and organisational procedures
- Maintain accurate progress notes, communication records and incident reports
- Identify and report changes in participant needs, risks or behaviours
- Maintain professional boundaries and respect participant privacy and confidentiality
- Work collaboratively with families, carers and other members of the support team
- Follow all organisational policies, procedures, WHS requirements and NDIS practice standards
Essential Criteria
To be considered for this position, you must have:
- Minimum 2 years' full-time equivalent experience working in disability support
- Demonstrated experience supporting people with complex behaviours and behaviours of concern
- Experience following individual Behaviour Support Plans
- Strong understanding of person-centred support
- Ability to remain calm, patient and professional when responding to challenging situations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong understanding of professional boundaries, duty of care and confidentiality
- Good written documentation and report-writing skills
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Current Working with Children Check, where applicable
- Current First Aid and CPR
- Relevant disability/individual support qualification or equivalent relevant experience
- Australian driver's licence - Minimum Provisional P2 Licence
Experience With Complex Behaviours
You must be confident and experienced in supporting participants who may present with:
- Behaviours of concern
- Emotional dysregulation
- Verbal or physical aggression
- Autism and intellectual disability
- Communication difficulties
- High support needs
- Psychosocial disability
- Complex personal care requirements
- Challenging situations requiring patience, consistency and good judgement
Experience using Positive Behaviour Support strategies is highly regarded.
