Details: Digital Canberra is seeking an experienced and strategic leader to perform the role of Senior Director, Data and AI Policy, Governance and Implementation, from 3 August 2026 to 21 August 2026.
The Senior Director, Data and AI Policy, Governance and Implementation, is responsible for leading data and AI policy, governance and capability uplift across the ACTPS.
Reporting to the Executive Branch Manager, Data, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Records Branch, the Senior Director leads a team working in partnership with Directorates to develop and deliver whole-of-service programs of work to ensure the safe and appropriately governed roll-out of AI at scale and pace across the ACTPS, supported by strong data functions and capabilities. The Senior Director also supports the EBM to lead the ACT’s engagement in interjurisdictional and national data and AI forums and projects.
In this role you will deliver a number of key priorities for the period from 3 August 2026 to 21 August 2026:

Lead the agenda and work programs for relevant whole-of-Government policy, reform or governance committees, and oversee provision of efficient, high quality secretariat support. This includes the Data Management Group, Data Reform Group, Artificial Intelligence Advisory Group and Enduring Linked Data Assets Working Group.

Oversee the delivery of a Privacy Impact Assessment.

Prepare and present strategic reports, briefings and submissions as required for senior executives, Government and other key stakeholders.

Lead a small policy and program implementation team and overseeing day-to-day operations.
This is a high-profile leadership opportunity to work in a rapidly evolving environment where you will shape how data and emerging technologies are used safely and effectively across the ACTPS.
Eligibility/Other Requirements:
Due to the short-term, temporary duration of the vacancy, an NV1 security clearance is not required for this position. Some functions and responsibilities of the position will be removed accordingly.
