Primary objective
To liaise with schools, registered training organisations (RTO’s), and industry to engage students in vocational work
placement opportunities. The Industry Engagement Coordinator proactively supports students to access the workplace by
facilitating structured engagement with local businesses.
Context statement
The Department of Education and Training (DET) oversees vocational programs across public and private Northern Territory
(NT) secondary schools, including managing the distribution of Vocational Education and Training (VET) funding and
facilitating industry partnerships. Working alongside schools, this position engages with RTOs and industry to enable
students to access work placements in line with their chosen vocation.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Liaise with VET coordinators, RTOs, and local industry to coordinate vocational work placements for students and provide
information and support to schools in relation to work experience.
2. Maintain accurate records of all industry placements, including host business, student, school, and RTO data to produce
reports on student activities.
3. Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including local industry, schools, and RTOs. Ensuring effective
engagement and collaboration between parties to provide opportunities to students.
4. Promote employment and training opportunities to schools and assist with the set up and coordination of industry lead
VET and career activities.
5. Provide information and support to stakeholders engaging in VET pathways including traineeships, and apprenticeships.
6. Provide general administration support to the work unit which may include processing purchase requests, travel
arrangements, and other ad hoc tasks.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a broad network of stakeholders including students,
parents, industry, registered training organisations, and schools.
2. Sound understanding of VET including, traineeship and apprenticeship pathways.
3. Demonstrated strong work ethic, which includes the use of initiative, sound judgement, problem solving skills and an
understanding of confidentiality as it relates to this position.
4. Proven high-level organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure, attention to detail, exercise initiative, be
responsive to shifting priorities, complete tasks within required timeframes and work in a team environment with minimal
supervision.
5. Well-developed written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including proven ability to communicate and work
in a cross-cultural environment.
Desirable
1. A Certificate IV in Career Development and or/a Certificate III in Work Health and Safety.
