About the Role
We are seeking experienced Industrial Coatings Technicians to join our team at Ampol’s Lytton Refinery. This permanent, site-based role is responsible for surface preparation, blasting, and protective coatings application to maintain asset integrity and prevent corrosion across plant equipment. Working in a safety-critical environment, you will ensure all coating activities meet strict quality, environmental, and compliance standards while supporting ongoing maintenance programs.
Role Accountabilities include:
- Perform abrasive blasting and surface preparation on structural steel, piping, and plant equipment
- Apply protective coatings, linings, and paint systems in accordance with specifications
- Carry out inspection and preparation of surfaces prior to coating application
- Maintain coating quality standards, including thickness checks and finish requirements
- Assist with fireproofing application and repairs where required
- Work in confined spaces and at heights in line with site requirements
- Follow permit-to-work systems and complete all required safety documentation
- Conduct routine maintenance and upkeep of blasting and painting equipment
- Identify coating defects, corrosion, and surface issues and report accordingly
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with site safety and environmental standards
Requirements & Experience Needed
- Trade qualification in Surface Preparation & Coating Application or Certificate III in Engineering (Fabrication – Surface Preparation & Finishing) or equivalent.
- Minimum 2+ years’ experience in industrial blasting and painting
- Experience in oil & gas, refinery, or heavy industrial environments
- Knowledge of coating systems, surface prep standards, and corrosion control
- Fireproofing experience (desirable)
- Experience working in a Major Hazard Facility (highly regarded)
- Current Confined Space and Working at Heights (or willing to obtain)
- Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental compliance
- Ability to work both in a team and autonomously
- Full Australian working rights
