Where you'll be working
This position is set at Westmead Hospital, in CIDM. This unit provides care and conducts clinical and basic research. Specifically, the Fellow will be based in CIDM and depending on their specialty interest (Infectious Diseases, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care and /or paediatrics) will be encouraged to participate in relevant allied departmental meetings.
Westmead Hospital is a 900-bed teaching hospital affiliated with The University of Sydney in the city’s western suburbs. It is a world-renowned facility offering state-of-the-art healthcare, including major trauma, bone marrow transplant, renal transplant, pancreas (islet) cell transplant, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, neonatal intensive care, and a cystic fibrosis service for adults.

We have for decades contributed strongly to the quality and safety of patient care and in the growth of the professions of infection prevention and control and infectious diseases. Staff from the Westmead Hospital Infection Prevention and Control Service have been instrumental in the development of professional credentialing frameworks for infection control practitioners within the Australasian College for Infection Prevention and control
What you'll be doing
The Provisional Fellow will work in the NSW Biocontainment Centre (NBC), part of the NSW Specialist Service for High Consequence Infectious Diseases. They will be responsible for biopreparedness and the delivery of clinical care to patients with confirmed or suspected High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID), including but not limited to Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers, MERS-CoV and new and emerging infections. The Provisional Fellow will assist the multi-disciplinary clinical leadership team in the development of clinical protocols and procedures for HCID management and prevention. They will participate in multidisciplinary meetings with allied clinical services, the Ministry of Health and other peak agencies as required.
Deployment to other hospitals as part of a "flying squad" will be part of the role. The Fellow will be required to participate in QA activities related to Point of Care (POc) testing in the NBC environment.
