Join our team as an Assistant Gardener
Love working outdoors, getting your hands in the soil, and seeing the difference your work makes every day? We’re looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Gardener to join our Parks and Natural Environment team, someone who enjoys practical horticulture, takes pride in well-presented open spaces, and wants to help our parks, gardens, streetscapes, and natural areas thrive.
This role is about more than mowing and weeding. You’ll be part of a team that cares for living landscapes, supporting plant health, managing weeds, improving presentation, and protecting the natural environment. Working closely with other parks and open space teams, you’ll help deliver high-quality, connected services that make Banyule’s green spaces welcoming, healthy, and enjoyable for the community.
Why you'll love this role:
This is a great opportunity to work outdoors, build your horticulture skills, and help shape the look and health of Banyule’s parks, gardens, streetscapes, and natural spaces. You’ll be part of a practical, supportive team where your work is visible, valued, and varied, from weed control and vegetation management to supporting planting and presentation across the council. In this role, you’ll:
- Put your horticulture and weed control knowledge into action across a wide range of parks, gardens, and natural areas.
- Use hands-on, practical methods including mechanical, manual, biological, and chemical control to help keep green spaces healthy, safe, and looking their best.
- Support enrichment planting activities, contributing to the growth and beauty of our parks and natural environments.
- Take action on invasive species and play an important role in protecting Banyule’s local ecosystems.
- Work alongside other parks, presentation, and natural environment teams to deliver great outcomes for the community.
- Take responsibility for ensuring that all works and tasks are undertaken in a safe manner.
If you're passionate about environmental stewardship and thrive in a hands-on, team-oriented role, we'd love to hear from you.
