Classification: Full Time Fixed Term
- Coordinate the delivery of PCS across the DCS prison system, to ensure a multi-faith service focused on addressing the spiritual needs, religious needs, and general wellbeing needs of prisoners detained within the SA Correctional system.
- Ensure prisoners' spiritual and religious care needs are identified, assessed, and met in accordance with human rights conventions and security protocols and are given the opportunity to express their faith or practice their religion through the provision of appropriate sacred texts, rituals, religious practices and literature.
- In conjunction with the DCS Volunteer Unit, be accountable for the recruitment, placement, training and ongoing management of spiritual and religious care service providers within all SA prisons and maintain central oversight of the activity undertaken by all ‘Other Faith Engagement services.
Description:
The Senior Coordinating Chaplain (SCC) is responsible for ensuring the following services and activities occur across the DCS prison system:
a Prison Chaplaincy Service (PCS) is operating across the prison system with central oversight and management occurring through the Principal Chaplain and Advisor Faith Engagement;
prisoners' spiritual and religious care needs are identified, assessed, and met in accordance with human rights conventions and security protocols, through the provision of a multi-faith service focussed on religious, spiritual, and general wellbeing needs;
prisoners are given the opportunity to express their faith or practice their religion through the provision of appropriate sacred texts, rituals, religious practices and literature;
- service providers i.e. Chaplains, student Chaplains, visiting Clergy (Professional Visitor), Prison Chaplaincy Support Workers (PCSW)1, are to work in a collaborative manner with DCS staff in order to address the spiritual and religious care needs and general wellbeing needs of prisoners.
