About the role
Reporting to the Site Manager, the Mechanical Engineering technician works closely with the project management team, contributing to design, conducting tests and analysis, assembling and installing equipment, troubleshooting problems, and ensuring the quality of BAM BAM Pile Driving’s projects across the country.
Main duties and responsibilities
- Interpret plans, drawings, and sketches for foundation works and mechanical structures
- Working closely with construction managers to estimate material costs, team size and machinery requirements for projects to establish a budget
- Perform and analyse structural pile load testing as per Australian standards
- Oversee and carry out quality assurance control on all finished work ahead of handing over to the client to ensure all are within agreed specifications
- Manage fleet and machinery servicing and maintenance, ensuring maintenance paperwork is kept up to date
- Attend meetings and briefings and communicate with contractors and clients as required
- Drilling Management: Supervising drilling teams, ensuring adequate work ahead, coordinating with relevant personnel, verifying correct data for drilling areas, tracking drilling data and re-drills, monitoring drill hole quality, performing rig maintenance, managing auger hard facing, and overseeing site safety (signage, cones, piling refusal tracking).
- Backfill Management: Optimising backfill operations (batching time, loads/day), ensuring adequate work for the backfill team, prioritising tasks, monitoring material levels, performing silo and carmix maintenance, and coordinating with piling operations.
- General Site Management: Providing team supplies, conducting safety inspections (including SWM compliance via Dashpivot), monitoring ground conditions, and facilitating communication between drilling and backfill teams
Experience/ Qualifications
Essential
- have 2+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering-related fields
- have experience with utility-scale solar farm construction
- have experience with hydraulic pile drivers and crawler drills
- hold white card and current driver's license
