In this role, you’ll help shape scalable, secure, and well-governed data solutions—ensuring trusted, high-quality data is available to support product, operational, regulatory, and customer outcomes.
Working closely with Product Managers, Engineers, Analysts, and business stakeholders, you’ll translate business needs into meaningful, scalable data products and solutions, while ensuring reliability, performance, security, and cost-efficiency remain front of mind.
This is a hands-on leadership opportunity where you’ll balance strategic thinking with practical delivery, guiding modern data architecture (Databricks, GCP) while staying close to the detail when needed. You’ll play a key role in uplifting engineering practices, mentoring others, and fostering a culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, support, and develop a high-performing, inclusive team of data engineers
- Mentor and coach team members, supporting both technical growth and career development
- Design, develop, and maintain systems across Engage and myHUB platforms
- Build and optimise Databricks-based workflows, including batch and real-time data pipelines
- Guide the design of scalable, secure, and maintainable data architectures
- Contribute hands-on to development to ensure high-quality, fit-for-purpose outcomes
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Cloud, DevOps/SRE, Cybersecurity, and business stakeholders
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible insights for decision-making
- Deliver prioritised initiatives, products, and capabilities on time and within budget
- Define and implement target data architectures, sequencing plans, and platform capabilities
- Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture, standards, and governance frameworks
- Embed secure-by-design principles, including data access controls, PII protection, and data governance
- Maintain strong practices across data quality, testing, lineage, monitoring, and documentation
- Lead continuous improvement across security, resilience, and engineering practices
- Integrate AI capabilities where they add meaningful value
- Build strong stakeholder relationships and influence outcomes through collaboration
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience leading or mentoring engineers, with a passion for supporting and developing others
- Proven experience designing and delivering complex data solutions in modern environments
- Strong experience with Databricks (or similar platforms) and high-volume data systems
- Experience with cloud-native environments (GCP preferred) including managed data services and streaming
- Solid understanding of OLTP systems (NoSQL beneficial)
- Experience with modern data architectures including APIs, event-driven systems, and microservices
- Knowledge of data warehousing, analytics ecosystems, and scalable reporting platforms
- Understanding of data governance, security, and privacy principles, including secure-by-design approaches
- Exposure to AI integration and emerging technologies is valued
- Experience working in Agile environments (SAFe or similar)
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts in plain language
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities with clarity, care, and sound judgement
- Experience in regulated environments (financial services preferred)
