About the opportunity:
The Clinical Forensic Medicine Unit are seeking Clinical Nurses with a minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience who are interested in Forensic Nursing to fill future vacancies.
Roles to be filled through this recruitment process will be of a casual nature.
The Clinical Forensic Medicine Unit (CFMU) provides specialised medical and forensic services across two primary areas of focus: Watchhouse nursing service and the forensic medical examinations service. The CN will be responsible for the provision of best practice, timely and effective clinical care to inmates at the Townsville Watch house.
CFMU nurses attend the watch house daily and undertake assessment of prisoners and coordinate care, treatment, and referral of those that require medical attention in consultation with the Metro North Virtual Emergency Department Medical Officer.
CFMU CNs who have completed training to become credentialled as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) are eligible to participate in the forensic aspect of the service and conduct forensic sexual assault examinations on adult victims of sexual assault (age 14 and older).
Completion of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) course is not immediately required and can be negotiated later depending on the CNs interest and current needs of the service.
Additional duties of this role include assistance with paediatric forensic examinations at CFMU and the collection of blood and urine specimens for Magistrate Approved Disease Test Orders.

Mandatory qualifications and proof of registration (if applicable)
To work as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE): Successful completion of the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) course provided by Forensic Medicine Queensland. This includes completion of the online component of the course and attendance at a two day workshop. Funding for the SANE course will be provided, including travel.
If applicable: Appropriate credentialing as a CN (SANE) in sexual assault examinations, initial and annual renewals, will be provided by the CFMU ND.
Possession of class C drivers' licence.
This is a Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) risk role.
