About the role
We're looking for a highly organised and proactive Legal Assistant to join our Commonwealth Injury Compensation (CIC) team. This role is based in our North Lakes office. We are open to part- or full-time applicants.
The CIC team is a close-knit, high-performing practice within our Personal Injuries North team. Despite its small size, the team manages a diverse and rewarding caseload, helping people across Australia navigate claims under the Comcare scheme and the Seafarers Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1992.
The team represents employees of Australian Government departments and licensed employers, including Australia Post, FedEx, Cleanaway Operations, K&S Freighters, Linfox, DHL, Armaguard, Virgin Australia, John Holland and Ramsay Health Care. Regardless of where our clients live or where their injury occurred, the team is committed to delivering expert legal support and achieving the best possible outcomes.
As a Legal Assistant, you'll play an integral role in supporting our lawyers and ensuring matters progress efficiently. You'll work closely with a collaborative team, build trusted relationships with clients, and help deliver exceptional service to people during what can often be a challenging time in their lives.

What you will be doing:

First point of contact for client enquiries, professional, prompt, and helpful.
- Keep clients in the loop with clear, timely updates.
- Support client files from start to finish.

Prepare correspondence and legal documents.
- Manage diaries, appointments and meetings.
- Process mail and correspondence.
- Handle client billing and related admin.
- Support the legal team with general administrative tasks.
About you:

Previous experience as a Legal Assistant is desirable, but not essential, perhaps you have been in a similar support or administrative role.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with clients and colleagues.

Outstanding organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.

A trustworthy, professional approach to handling confidential client information.
- A genuine learning mindset, you’re eager to expand your knowledge and skillset.
- Comfort with legal technology and AI tools, or enthusiasm to build proficiency quickly.
- An interest in commercial awareness, understanding how matters run efficiently for clients.
- A proactive approach to process improvement, you’re someone who spots better ways of doing things and isn't afraid to suggest them.
