SIL Coordinator — Position Description

1. Position Purpose
The SIL Coordinator provides day-to-day operational coordination, practice oversight and leadership for MarJen Collective’s Supported Independent Living (SIL) services. The role ensures SIL supports are delivered safely, consistently and in a way that upholds participant rights, choice, autonomy, dignity of risk and quality of life. The SIL Coordinator works closely with participants, families, guardians, support coordinators, clinicians, Behaviour Support Practitioners, Support Workers, Team Leaders and MarJen leadership to maintain high-quality, person-centred and compliant SIL service delivery.
2. Scope of Practice — SIL Coordinator
As the SIL Coordinator, you coordinate and oversee SIL service delivery across home-based and shared living environments. You are responsible for supporting safe daily operations, workforce coordination, documentation quality, implementation of participant plans, incident escalation, restrictive practice safeguards where applicable, and communication across the participant’s support network. The role does not replace clinical decision-making by Behaviour Support Practitioners or other clinicians, but ensures recommendations and authorised plans are implemented consistently within the SIL environment.
3. Key Responsibilities3.1 SIL Service Coordination and Daily Operations
· Coordinate day-to-day SIL operations to ensure participants receive safe, reliable and person-centred supports.
· Monitor household routines, staffing arrangements, communication systems and service delivery consistency.
· Support smooth commencement, transition and review processes for participants entering or exiting SIL arrangements.
· Ensure participant preferences, goals, communication needs, cultural considerations, sensory needs and risk factors are reflected in daily practice.
3.2 Participant Rights, Safeguarding and Quality of Life
· Promote participant choice, control, privacy, dignity, supported decision-making and dignity of risk within the SIL home.
· Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns, changes in support needs, risks, complaints or indicators of abuse, neglect, exploitation or poor practice.
· Ensure the home environment is treated as the participant’s private living space, not as a workplace controlled by staff.
· Support participants to have their preferences, routines and relationships respected while balancing duty of care and safety obligations.
3.3 Workforce Coordination and Team Support
· Work with rostering and leadership staff to maintain continuity of support, appropriate worker matching and safe shift coverage.
· Guide, coach and support Support Workers and SIL Team Leaders in relation to household routines, documentation, handovers and participant-specific supports.
· Identify staff training needs, practice drift, performance concerns or gaps in competency and escalate to management as required.
· Support onboarding, shadow shifts, team meetings, supervision arrangements and communication processes for SIL staff.
3.4 Implementation of Participant Plans
· Ensure Support Plans, Behaviour Support Plans, risk assessments, health plans, mealtime plans, communication plans and other relevant documents are accessible, current and understood by the SIL team.
· Monitor implementation fidelity and escalate concerns where plans are unclear, outdated, unsafe or inconsistently followed.
· Coordinate practical implementation requirements, including staff briefings, reminders, household resources, handover notes and documentation prompts.
· Liaise with clinicians and Behaviour Support Practitioners to support consistent implementation of recommendations within the SIL environment.
3.5 Behaviour Support and Restrictive Practice Safeguards
· Ensure staff only implement authorised regulated restrictive practices where required training, competency and authorisation requirements have been met.
· Monitor restrictive practice records, incident reports and behaviour data for completeness, accuracy and timely submission.
· Escalate any unauthorised restrictive practice, misuse, poor documentation, safety issue or concern about necessity and proportionality immediately.
· Support monthly reporting processes by ensuring SIL documentation is accurate, objective and available for review.
3.6 Documentation, Compliance and Reporting
· Oversee quality and timeliness of SIL-related documentation, including case notes, communication logs, incident reports, restrictive practice records, risk updates and handover information.
· Maintain confidentiality, privacy and secure records in line with MarJen Collective policies and NDIS requirements.
· Contribute to audits, continuous improvement actions, service reviews and evidence collection for compliance purposes.
· Ensure concerns, incidents, complaints and changes in participant needs are documented and escalated promptly.
3.7 Communication and Stakeholder Collaboration
· Maintain respectful, timely and professional communication with participants, families, guardians, nominees, support coordinators, clinicians, staff and leadership.
· Coordinate meetings, case discussions, reviews and communication updates where required.
· Support transparent communication where concerns arise, including service quality, participant safety, conflicts of interest or changes to support arrangements.
· Represent MarJen Collective professionally and in line with organisational values, policies and confidentiality requirements.
4. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
· SIL shifts are coordinated safely, with timely escalation of coverage risks or continuity concerns.
· Participant plans are implemented consistently and reviewed when needs change.
· Documentation is accurate, objective, timely and compliant with internal and NDIS requirements.
· Incidents, safeguarding concerns, restrictive practice matters and service quality issues are escalated appropriately.
· Participants, families and stakeholders report respectful, responsive and rights-based communication.
· Staff receive appropriate guidance, onboarding support, feedback and escalation pathways.
· Audit and compliance evidence is maintained and available when required.
· Continuous improvement actions are identified, followed up and documented.
5. Qualifications and Suitability Requirements5.1 Experience and Skills
· Minimum 2 years’ experience in disability, SIL, community services, team leadership, coordination, rostering, or related roles.
· Strong understanding of NDIS service delivery, participant rights, safeguarding, duty of care and person-centred practice.
· Demonstrated ability to coordinate staff, manage competing priorities and respond calmly to operational issues.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills, including accurate documentation and professional stakeholder communication.
· Understanding of behaviour support, restrictive practice safeguards and incident reporting requirements is highly desirable.
5.2 Education
Certificate III or IV in Disability, Individual Support, Community Services, Leadership, Mental Health or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience in SIL coordination, disability support leadership or community services may be considered.
5.3 Mandatory Requirements
· Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
· Working With Children Check / Blue Card where required.
· Current First Aid and CPR.
· Valid driver’s licence and capacity to travel where required.
· Completion of NDIS Worker Orientation Module and MarJen Collective mandatory induction training.
· Commitment to the NDIS Code of Conduct, NDIS Practice Standards, privacy, confidentiality, WHS and safeguarding obligations.
6. Selection Criteria — SIL Coordinator
· SIL coordination and operational capability: Demonstrated ability to coordinate SIL supports, staffing arrangements, daily operations and continuity of support.
· Rights-based and person-centred practice: Strong commitment to participant choice, autonomy, privacy, supported decision-making and dignity of risk.
· Safeguarding and risk awareness: Ability to identify, document and escalate risks, incidents, restrictive practice concerns and service quality issues.
· Team leadership and workforce support: Experience guiding staff, supporting onboarding, promoting consistency and addressing practice concerns appropriately.
· Communication and stakeholder engagement: Strong ability to communicate respectfully and professionally with participants, families, staff, clinicians and external stakeholders.
· Documentation and compliance: Capacity to maintain accurate records, support audit readiness and meet NDIS-related documentation expectations.

Pay: $65,000.00 – $85,000.00 per year
