About the role
Help create safe, welcoming and inclusive library spaces at the heart of Melbourne's community.
We're seeking a customer-focused Security Concierge to join City of Melbourne Libraries in a unique role that combines customer service, community engagement and safety support.
This is not a traditional security position and it's not a seated concierge role behind a desk. It's a highly visible, active and people-focused role where you'll spend much of your day engaging with library visitors, moving throughout the building, supporting events and helping create positive community experiences. As one of the first points of contact in our vibrant public spaces, you'll help set the tone for a welcoming, safe and inclusive environment for everyone who visits our libraries.
Working as part of a collaborative team, you'll provide concierge support, respond to customer enquiries, assist with library operations and use a proactive, trauma-informed approach to support the wellbeing and safety of visitors, staff and community members.
This permanent part-time position is 17.5 hours per week, worked across Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with a mix of morning and afternoon shifts. The role also includes one Saturday per month, with opportunities for additional Sunday shifts paid as overtime.
A little more about the role
- Deliver high-quality concierge and customer service to library visitors and community members.
- Maintain a highly visible presence throughout library spaces, actively engaging with visitors, building positive relationships and helping create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Respond to and de-escalate challenging situations using best-practice safety and security approaches.
- Conduct building patrols and respond to security system alarms and incidents.
- Support venue operations, including room bookings, event set-up and pack-down activities.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, emergency services and security providers when required.
- Perform First Aid and assist with emergency responses and evacuations as needed.
Why join Team Melbourne?

About you
