Description:
About STAIRLOCK
We make stairs. It is all we do, and we have done it since 1960.
STAIRLOCK is a third-generation Australian family business that has supplied more than 200,000 staircases to the national residential building market. Today we design, manufacture, deliver and install more than 10,000 staircases every year — 70 employees, 20 subcontractor installers, 50+ installations a day, and a purpose-built 4,000m² manufacturing facility feeding daily freight to every capital city.
In New South Wales we already supply Eagle Homes, Ruby Homes, Dhursan Construction, The Bathla Group, Meridian Homes, Eco Build and New South Homes to name only a few — and we run our own office, warehouse, workshop and display selection studio at Seven Hills.
We compete on reliability, not price. Solid. Strong. Fast.
The role
You will report directly to our Group Commercial Manager. No state layer. No matrix. No waiting a quarter for a decision.
Your focus is volume. Around 80% of your effort goes into defending and aggressively growing our easy MDF staircase business with Sydney's medium-density builders and townhouse developers — the segment where our manufacturing capacity, install crews and delivery record win work our competitors simply cannot service. The balance is our CUSTOM range: American Oak, Eucalyptus Grandis, Spotted Gum, Blackbutt, steel spines and frameless glass, with staircase display modules in our Seven Hills display studio.
Day to day, you will:
Own the entire NSW territory — hunting new medium-density builders and developers, while growing share of wallet across the established book
Run 25–30 genuine customer sales meetings a month, face to face with decision-makers, both in builders offices or on-site with construction teams
Host builder clients for selections appointments at our Seven Hills display studio
Quote, negotiate and convert — protecting gross margin rather than buying volume with price
Keep the CRM accurate and your forecast within ±10%, so production and installation can be planned around your pipeline
Work alongside our NSW team — a dedicated internal resource supporting quote follow-up and display studio appointments, so you stay in front of customers instead of chasing paperwork
Who this suits
You have sold building products to Sydney residential builders. You know who buys, who specifies and who actually signs. Ideally you already hold live relationships with medium-density builders and townhouse developers across Sydney.
You will also bring:
A demonstrable record of winning new B2B accounts — not simply holding existing ones
Genuine commercial acumen: you understand gross margin, not just price
The ability to read building plans and translate them into a product solution
Disciplined CRM and forecasting habits — NetSuite, Salesforce, HubSpot or similar ERP/CRM, BCI Central, EstimateOne, Excel
Full Australian driver's licence, Australian working rights, and willingness to complete a National Police Clearance
A background in stairs, doors, windows, framing, flooring, joinery or building systems is a genuine advantage.
Be honest with yourself before you apply
This is a hunting role. A significant share of your success will come from builders who aren't buying from us yet — which means prospecting, opening doors and earning that first order. If the last three years of your career have been spent servicing an inherited account list, this will be a harder job than it looks from the outside.
We measure new customers met, opportunities created, first quotes issued, and dollars written with builders who have never bought from us. We back people who own their numbers, and we have no appetite for excuses about pricing, operations or market conditions.
If you want a territory to manage rather than a market to take, this is not the role.
If that reads like a description of how you already work, we should talk.
