About the role
As the Lead HIM, Classification and Documentation, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the quality, accuracy, and effectiveness of clinical information across the service. This role goes beyond traditional coding leadership - acting as a key driver of improvement in documentation practices, data integrity, and funding optimisation. You will work closely with clinical and operational teams to identify opportunities for enhancing documentation and classification outcomes, translating complex data insights into practical improvements that support both patient care and organisational performance.
About you
Our ideal candidate will be someone who can carry out the following key accountabilities in accordance with the Metro North Health's values:
Provide expert advice and education as required or requested to the designated Service Line and the Health Information Service (HIS) on key documentation, clinical coding, counting and costing issues that impact Activity Based Funding (ABF).
Comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations and standards which impact upon the position, including contemporary human resource management requirements and practices, such as workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination policies.
Monitor and report on progress and achievement of department Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to Clinical Classification and coding.
Actively contribute to clinical coding of outstanding discharges to assist in deadline management or as otherwise directed.
Work collaboratively as part of the overall Health Information Services team to ensure key deliverables are met.
