About the Role:
As a result of continuous company growth, GPA is looking for an enthusiastic Lead Electrical Power Engineer to join our Perth Team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high performing and growing team.
Working as part of the National HV team you will be responsible for conceptual and detailed design, power system modelling and studies, and procurement and commissioning support for the HV systems for a variety of sectors ranging from microgrids, renewable energy plants, battery energy storage, green hydrogen and carbon capture facilities to conventional mining, oil & gas and petrochemical industries.
Our Perth part of the National Team is growing, and we require a passionate engineer with solid technical knowledge to not only lead the local team but to also participate in the national teams’ goals.
Key Duties
We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic about contributing to the growth of the Power team’s capabilities, mentoring junior engineers, and working collaboratively with other engineering disciplines on multi‑disciplinary projects.
The ideal candidate will bring:
- Working on all aspects of electrical scope of work across all phases of projects including conceptual Studies, FEED, detailed design and procurement through to commissioning.
- Design HV & LV generation, distribution, reticulation, and control systems.
- Produce technical documentation, specifications and datasheets for electrical equipment including low and high voltage switchgear, power transformers, protection and control equipment and power management systems.
- Power system studies including earth grid performance studies, load flow, fault levels, protection coordination, and dynamic / transient system analysis.
- Detailed design of secondary control and protection systems.
- Provide guidance, coach and mentor engineers across the discipline
Skills and Experience
Ideally, your skills and experience will include the following:
- Extensive and proven technical experience in designing electrical systems for large scale installations across various industrial sectors.
- Demonstrated understanding of power system modelling with proficiency in electrical design and simulation tools such as SKM PTW, ETap, DigSilent PowerFactory, PSCAD, CYMCAP, CDEGS, etc.
- Experience and exposure working with network/ distribution NSPs, knowledge of the NER.
- Experience with AEMO connections and GPS studies will be advantageous.
- Field experience in large scale electrical installations, including IED protection IED configuration, troubleshooting, commissioning, and construction support will be advantageous.
- Experience and knowledge of the prevalent high voltage design standard and codes including AS/NZS, IEC and IEEE standards.
- Bachelor or Masters in Electrical Engineering or similar and be working towards your Chartered status, if not already achieved.
- Sound understanding of electrical protection and control systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Natural ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- A positive mindset focused on solutions and customer service.
A requirement for this role is to complete a satisfactory pre-employment medical and Australian police clearance.
