We are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Lawyer to provide clear, timely legal advice to support Ambulance Victoria's (AV) services and functions. This position will identify legal risks and support stakeholders to implement effective risk-mitigation strategies and improvements across AV's projects and operations and provide legal support as a member of the AV Legal Department.
While WFH/Hybrid options are available, it is essential that the successful applicant maintains a presence at Blackburn/Doncaster or Ballarat in line with our hybrid working model.
About the role
Reporting to the General Counsel, this role will provide clear, practical verbal and written legal advice across all levels, departments and legal areas throughout AV. Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Draft/review/negotiate agreements and contracts including goods and services agreements, memoranda of understanding (MoUs), ICT contracts, information and data-sharing agreements, consultancy agreements, research and collaboration agreements, property leases and licences and construction and maintenance contracts
- Advise on tender documentation and contracts, ensuring compliance with VGPB and probity requirements and on privacy law and data protection standards including relating to information security obligations, data breach response, privacy breach notifications
- Provide guidance on Victorian government legislation, statutory interpretation and requirements (as they relate to AV), procedural fairness, decision-making frameworks, delegations and authorisations, and any other applicable AV-internal and Victorian government policies and procedures
- Assist with litigated matters, disputes and internal investigations including coordinating with external counsel, reviewing pleadings/affidavits/discovery, preparing instructions and briefs, supporting witnesses, attending mediations, managing settlement discussions and overseeing litigated matters in conjunction with VMIA-appointed lawyers and members of the AV Legal team
- Demonstrate people leadership in promote early intervention strategies, providing guidance, training and coaching to relevant AV employees where required and using legal knowledge, negotiation and influence to balance competing interests
About you
The successful candidate will have completion of a tertiary degree in Law, with relevant experience in the areas of commercial and ideally, privacy law together with current Victorian legal practising certificate. Other requirements include but not limited to:
- Three to five years post-admission practice experience, either in house or private practice
- Experience relevant to government or emergency services practice (highly regarded)
- Strong ability to translate complex concepts into clear, concise and practical advice and communicate effectively to various stakeholders
- Demonstrated high-level document and correspondence drafting skills with the ability to manage multiple matters
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation and influencing skills with integrity and judgment in handling confidential and sensitive issues
