BetweenUs Coffee Food Wine is looking for experienced Chef to join our team!
BetweenUs Coffee Food Wine is a welcoming café and licensed restaurant located in the heart of Canterbury's iconic Maling Road precinct. Established in 2012, BetweenUs has built a reputation for serving premium specialty coffee, fresh seasonal cuisine, and carefully selected wines in a warm and inviting atmosphere. Having around 50 seats, the café offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, featuring a menu that combines modern Australian flavours with high-quality local ingredients. In addition to everyday dining,
Trading 7 days in daytime and 4 nights every week, BetweenUs provides venue hire, catering and private function services for corporate events, celebrations and community gatherings. RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Plan, prepare and cook breakfast, lunch and dinner menu items to a consistently high standard.
· Develop and update seasonal menus in consultation with management.
· Create daily specials and introduce new dishes to enhance the customer experience.
· Supervise and coordinate kitchen staff, including cooks and kitchen hands.
· Allocate duties and monitor workflow to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
· Ensure all food is prepared and presented in accordance with established recipes and quality standards.
· Monitor food quality, portion control and presentation before service.
· Order, receive and manage food supplies and kitchen inventory.
· Minimise food waste through effective stock rotation and inventory control.
· Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and sanitation regulations, including maintaining a clean and safe kitchen.
· Monitor and maintain kitchen equipment, arranging repairs or maintenance where necessary.
· Ensure compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements.
· Train, mentor and develop junior kitchen staff in food preparation and cooking techniques.
· Work collaboratively with front-of-house staff to ensure efficient service and customer satisfaction.
· Monitor food costs and assist in achieving budget and profitability targets.
· Accommodate customers' dietary requirements and food allergy requests where appropriate.
· Maintain accurate records of stock, food temperatures and food safety procedures.
· Ensure the kitchen operates efficiently during peak service periods.
· Contribute ideas to improve menu offerings, operational efficiency and customer satisfaction.
REQUIREMENTS
To be considered as a right candidate, you will need to demonstrate:
· Essentially minimum 2 years of full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience working as a Chef in a café, restaurant, or similar commercial kitchen.
· Relevant culinary qualification, such as a Certificate IV in Kitchen Management, Diploma of Hospitality Management, or an equivalent overseas qualification (preferred, but not essential).
· Demonstrated experience in planning, preparing and cooking a wide range of dishes to a high standard.
· Experience in menu planning, recipe development and seasonal menu creation.
· Ability to supervise, train and lead kitchen staff effectively.
· Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene and sanitation standards, including HACCP principles.
· Experience in stock ordering, inventory management and food cost control.
· Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining food quality and consistency.
· Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise tasks.
· Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
· Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, public holidays and evenings.
· Commitment to delivering high-quality food and excellent customer service.
· Ability to maintain a clean, safe and organised kitchen environment.
· Australian work rights or eligibility to obtain a suitable Australian work visa (if applicable).
