About the position
We are seeking a passionate Cook to join our team and contribute to our fast-paced, customer-focused kitchen.
Some of the duties and responsibilities are:
· Prepare and cook a variety of breakfast, brunch, and lunch menu items, ensuring consistency in flavour, portion size, quality, and presentation.
· Inspect fresh ingredients and food supplies to ensure quality and prepare house-made sauces, dressings, compotes, and other menu components using high-quality ingredients.
· Operate and monitor commercial kitchen equipment, including grills, deep fryers, induction cooktops, ovens, and other cooking appliances, ensuring correct operating temperatures and safe food preparation practices.
· Monitor cooking times and temperatures, seasoning dishes appropriately throughout the cooking process to ensure meals consistently meet the café's quality standards and food safety requirements.
· Plate, portion, garnish, and quality-check dishes before service, maintaining presentation standards during high-volume breakfast and lunch service.
· Prepare and modify meals to accommodate customer dietary requirements and food allergies, including gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and other special dietary requests, while preventing cross-contamination.
· Assist with daily kitchen preparation, ensuring all ingredients are correctly labelled, stored in temperature-controlled facilities, and rotated using FIFO principles to maintain freshness and minimise waste.
· Monitor stock levels, assist with ordering ingredients and kitchen supplies, estimate food requirements, and support food costing initiatives to maintain efficient kitchen operations and minimise wastage.
· Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic kitchen by adhering to HACCP, food safety, sanitation, and workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements.
· Work closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team to coordinate daily kitchen workflow and ensure efficient service during busy breakfast and lunch trading periods.
· Support the training and mentoring of junior kitchen staff and apprentices by demonstrating correct food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and kitchen procedures.
· Contribute to seasonal menu planning, recipe consistency, and the continuous improvement of kitchen operations to enhance food quality and the overall customer dining experience.
Skills and Qualifications Requirements:
· Minimum of 3 years' experience working in a fast-paced café or similar commercial kitchen environment.
· Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or a higher relevant qualification.
· Demonstrated ability to perform commercial kitchen operations to a high standard in a busy, high-volume café environment.
· Strong knowledge of food preparation techniques, cooking methods, and safe operation of commercial kitchen equipment.
· A keen willingness to learn and develop new skills, including artisanal products as the business continues to expand.
· Excellent attention to detail, with the ability to accurately follow recipes, measure ingredients, and monitor cooking times to ensure consistency.
· A commitment to producing high-quality dishes with exceptional presentation and consistency.
· Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and perform efficiently during busy service periods.
· A team-oriented approach with excellent communication skills and a positive attitude.
· Sound understanding of food safety, HACCP, and workplace health and safety practices.
