The Anaesthesia Independent Trainee position allows the development of skills required for independent practice as a Specialist Anaesthetist and is appropriate for training year 1 - 4 in Anaesthesia. Its main purpose is to expose trainees to a portion of the volume practice required to fulfil requirements for introductory, basic or advanced training with ANZCA and to facilitate the achievement of Fellowship of the College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA).
The Trainee will be expected to provide care for patients of all ages presenting for anaesthesia in a variety of anaesthetic contexts including emergency and elective surgery, endoscopy, cardiac cath lab procedures and analgesia in labour. They will also be required to participate in and lead MET call responses and trauma calls. The Trainee will also have responsibilities for managing patients on the Acute Pain Service and for reviewing perioperative patients on the wards and in OPD.
What you'll be doing

Assisting Specialist Anaesthetists in Operating Theatre during routine hours with elective and emergency cases.

Performing pre and post operative evaluations.

Providing anaesthetic care in Theatre and other locations including ICU/CCU.

Providing epidural service to Delivery Suite as rostered.

Take part in emergency resuscitation service for all wards and departments as required.

Participating in a rotating roster of day, evening and night shifts with overtime as required.

Undertaking rotations to other hospitals in NSW.

Trainees may be rotated to Nepean ICU.
Where you'll be working
-
Anaesthesia Department consisting of 70 Specialists and 26 Trainees.

Over 19 operating theatres performing approx. 15,000 procedures a year, covering all major surgical specialities with the exception of cardiac and major paediatric surgery.

Anaesthetic services are also provided to endoscopy, medical imaging (MRI and angio), cardiac catheterisation lab and the Pre Admission Clinic.

Obstetric anaesthesia is provided to the Delivery Suite (3,700 deliveries/year) on a 24 hour basis.

Essential requirements

MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.

At least three years' postgraduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).

A level of clinical anaesthesia experience appropriate for the particular training hospital’s role. This role is used to further progress towards a Fellowship qualification.

Willingness to undertake all aspects of the role as described in the PD, including, but not limited to, participation in after-hours rosters and rotations to seconding hospitals and departments as required by the department.

This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
