About Us
ANQ – An Nam Quan brings the flavours of Saigon to Adelaide. We're a family-rooted Vietnamese restaurant serving authentic dishes made with fresh ingredients and recipes passed down through generations — pho, banh mi, noodle salads, rice bowls, and fresh spring rolls, in a warm space where our motto is simple: come in, sit down, and let us feed you.
We're looking for a qualified, experienced Chef to join our kitchen team and help us keep every plate consistent, fresh, and full of flavour.
The Role
As our Chef, you'll be at the heart of the kitchen — preparing and cooking our menu to ANQ's standards, keeping service moving during busy periods, and helping maintain the quality and consistency our regulars know and love. You'll work closely with the Head Chef and kitchen team, and support and guide junior kitchen staff as needed.
Employment type: Full-time
Location: Hawthorn or Marryatville (shifts across both venues may be available)
Hours: Includes evenings and weekends across our 7-day trading week
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook menu items — including pho, banh mi, noodle salads, rice bowls, and fresh spring rolls — to ANQ's recipes and presentation standards
- Complete mise en place and food prep ahead of service to keep the kitchen running smoothly
- Maintain consistency, portion control, and presentation across every dish
- Monitor stock levels of kitchen ingredients, rotate stock (FIFO), and flag shortages or ordering needs
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety standards at all times
- Help train, coach, and support junior kitchen staff, including dishwashers/runners
- Liaise with the front-of-house team to keep ticket timing and communication smooth during service
- Keep the kitchen, equipment, and storage areas clean, organised, and compliant
- Step into any kitchen section as needed to support the team during peak periods
About You
- Trade-qualified Chef (Certificate III/IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent) with proven experience in a professional kitchen, ideally Vietnamese or Asian cuisine
- Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices; a Food Safety Supervisor certificate is a plus
- Able to work efficiently and stay calm under pressure during busy service
- Strong attention to detail and consistency in food quality and presentation
- Reliable, hands-on, and comfortable working as part of a close-knit team
- Available to work evenings and weekends
- Vietnamese language or cuisine knowledge preferred, though not essential — many of our regular guests and team members speak Vietnamese, and it's a bonus if you do too
What We Offer
- A hands-on cooking role in a growing, family-oriented Vietnamese restaurant
- Supportive management and a close-knit kitchen team
- Staff meals and discounts
- Opportunities to grow further into a senior chef or kitchen leadership role
- Flexible shifts across our two Adelaide locations
