Your Role and Impact
This key role is all about creating and contributing to new industry-leading technology and service innovations that can help sophisticated building operators activate and coordinate distributed energy resources (DER). This ‘demand side’ engagement is essential for decarbonising the global economy. Specific role accountabilities are reviewed quarterly to ensure they’re addressing the priorities that emerge from our collaborations with customers and research partners. Examples include:
- Improving our core modelling and forecasting algorithms and making them more robust
- Applying statistical / machine learning techniques to build new data products. tools and features, and support business development
- Developing fine-grained anomaly detection and diagnostics tools, including application of reinforcement learning
- Mentoring and advising PhD candidates in collaboration with our research partners
- Writing research papers and reports and presenting research at forums and conferences
- Providing technical and operational support to our customer engagement team on the application and use of modelling
- Providing support to our development team, including testing results, bug fix, and proposing algorithm changes.
Desired Skills and Experience
You will need to be curious, creative and energetic to succeed in this role. It is essential that you’re able to work productively with minimal supervision, facilitate collaboration and be a person that people from all walks of life want to work with. Ideally, you will have a background that also includes a range of the following:
- data manipulation and analysis libraries (e.g., pandas, NumPy, dplyr)
- proficiency in machine learning frameworks (e.g., scikit-learn, TensorFlow)
- SQL skills and experience querying relational databases
- some experience working with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop)
- proficiency with data visualisation tools (e.g., Plotly)
- familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure (e.g., S3, Lambda, SageMaker)
- experience working with version control tools (e.g., Git)
- hands-on experience from an industrial or academic research team or environment.
In addition, you will likely have post-graduate tertiary qualifications in mathematics, statistics or relevant scientific or engineering disciplines.

Pay: $80,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
