Activation and Building Maintenance Officer

The Pioneer Settlement is seeking a passionate and versatile team member to help maintain, activate and showcase one of Victoria’s most iconic heritage attractions.
This role blends practical maintenance work with interactive visitor engagement, giving you the chance to step into history while ensuring the site remains vibrant, safe and welcoming.
About the Role
This is a full-time position (38 hours per week) working on a rotating roster including every second weekend, offering variety and a vibrant working environment.
In this role, you will:
- Maintain the presentation and upkeep of historic buildings, exhibits and site assets
- Deliver engaging live heritage activations, such as butter making, rope making and old-fashioned school experiences
- Support the delivery of programs, events and daily visitor experiences
- Play a key role in ensuring every guest enjoys a memorable and immersive journey through history

What you will be doing
Activation & Visitor Experience
- Lead and assist with hands-on heritage activities
- Engage visitors and help bring the Settlement to life
- Promote attractions including night shows and PS Pyap cruises
Maintenance & Site Care
- Carry out routine building and facility maintenance
- Assist with conservation and collection care
- Support maintenance of historic assets, including the PS Pyap river vessel
Cleaning & Presentation
- Ensure buildings, exhibits and amenities are clean and visitor-ready
- Maintain high presentation standards across the entire site
Events & Venue Support
- Assist with event setup and pack-down
- Prepare and reset venues including the Lower Murray Inn and Church
Outdoor & Site Maintenance
- Perform general grounds upkeep and waste management
- Support sustainability initiatives and site improvements
What we are looking for
- Practical and hands-on with maintenance skills
- Enthusiastic about history, heritage or tourism
- Comfortable engaging with visitors of all ages
- Organised, reliable and safety-focused
- A strong team player with a proactive attitude
- Current Driver’s Licence, Working with Children Check and Police Check
- Bonus: Experience in a m useum, tourism or heritage environment

- Approximately $67,338 per annum. In addition, super is paid at 15%.
