About the Role
Mercedes-Benz Autobody approval demands the highest standards in facility, equipment, training, and workmanship — and our Macgregor facility meets every one of them. As our Specialised Detailer/Buffer, you play a critical role throughout the painting process and are the final eye on every repair — involved from paint preparation through to the finished correction and polish that sends every vehicle back to our customer in a condition that upholds the Mercedes-Benz standard. Your skill with a machine polisher, your eye for paint correction, and your commitment to an impeccable finish are what set our work apart and uphold the approval we have earned.
This is a full-time role for someone who is serious about their craft. You will work alongside our panel and paint technicians on prestige and luxury vehicles where the margin for imperfection is zero — and where your expertise directly contributes to our reputation and our customer’s experience.
What You'll Be Doing
- Perform machine polishing, cutting, and buffing to remove paint imperfections, swirl marks, buffer trails, and overspray following panel repairs and refinishing
- Assess paint finish quality following each repair and apply the correct correction technique to achieve a factory-standard result on every vehicle
- Hand polish, clay bar, and detail vehicles to the highest standard prior to customer delivery
- Apply paint protection, sealants, and ceramic coatings as required
- Complete full interior and exterior detailing on all repaired vehicles prior to handover
- Inspect all vehicles for pre-existing and post-repair damage, recording findings accurately before commencing any detailing work
- Work closely with the paint and panel team to flag any finish issues requiring rectification before final detail
- Maintain detailing equipment, compounds, polishes, and consumables in good order and report any faults or shortages to the Autobody Manager
- Ensure the detailing bay is maintained in a clean, safe, and organised condition at all times
- Adhere to all WHS/OHS requirements, handling all chemicals and polishing compounds correctly and in accordance with safety data sheets
What We're Looking For
- Demonstrated experience in machine polishing, paint correction, and detailing in an automotive workshop, body shop, or professional detailing environment
- A thorough understanding of paint systems, clear coat correction, and the correct use of cutting compounds, polishes, and finishing products
- Proficiency with dual action and rotary machine polishers and the knowledge of when to apply each technique
- An exceptional eye for finish quality — you see what others miss and you won’t sign off on a vehicle until it meets your standard
- Experience working on prestige, luxury, or high-end vehicles is highly regarded — you understand the expectation that comes with the badge
- A professional, team-first attitude and genuine pride in the quality of your output
- Ability to manage your time effectively and work to production schedules without compromising quality
