We are now seeking a skilled and motivated Motor Mechanic to join our workshop team on a full-time basis.
Motor Mechanic – Full Time | BP Wyndham Road Auto Repairs | Claremont, TAS 7010
Key Responsibilities
- Inspecting vehicles and identifying mechanical, engine, transmission, steering, braking, suspension and electrical faults using practical knowledge, diagnostic tools and computer-based testing equipment.
- Carrying out scheduled servicing, logbook maintenance and preventative vehicle maintenance to ensure vehicles run safely, efficiently and in line with manufacturer requirements.
- Repairing and replacing worn, damaged or defective vehicle parts, including brakes, clutches, timing components, cooling systems, suspension parts, steering components and other mechanical assemblies.
- Dismantling, removing and checking vehicle components such as engines, gearboxes, transmissions, steering systems and related mechanical parts to determine repair requirements.
- Reassembling engines, mechanical systems and vehicle components after repairs, ensuring all work is completed accurately and safely.
- Testing and adjusting repaired or replaced parts to confirm proper performance, road safety and reliability before vehicles are returned to customers.
- Using service manuals, technical information and manufacturer specifications to complete repairs correctly and efficiently.
- Performing engine repair and rebuild work where required, including inspection, fitting, adjustment and reassembly of engine components.
- Servicing and repairing gearbox and transmission systems in line with workshop procedures and customer requirements.
- Assisting with auto-electrical diagnosis and repair work, including testing batteries, charging systems, starter motors, wiring faults and related electrical components.
- Conducting vehicle safety checks and advising customers or management on work required to bring vehicles to a roadworthy and safe operating condition.
- Completing workshop jobs in-house where possible, supporting the business’s commitment to reliable and complete mechanical repair services.
- Maintaining accurate job records, parts usage and service notes for customer vehicles.
- Communicating clearly with the workshop team regarding repair progress, required parts, delays and any additional work identified.
- Ensuring all repairs and services are completed to a high standard and in accordance with workplace safety requirements.
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work area, including correct use of tools, equipment and workshop machinery.
- Supporting the workshop team during busy periods and assisting with general mechanical duties as required.
- Providing professional and respectful service to customers where direct communication is required.
- Following workplace policies, safety procedures and quality standards at all times.
Skills and Experience Required
- At least 1 year of relevant experience as a Motor Mechanic or in a similar automotive repair role.
- An AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV, or equivalent relevant qualification.
Salary: $75,000 – $85,000 plus superannuation per annum
Hours: Full-time, 38 hours per week
