Position Purpose:
The Yard person is responsible for ensuring the depot yard, fleet, and facilities are maintained to a high operational standard. This role supports the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the NSBC Group fleet through vehicle preparation, charging, refuelling, cleaning, basic fleet maintenance activities and depots, Yard lawns and gardens maintenance, contractor coordination, and administrative support.
The position plays a critical role in ensuring vehicles are ready for service, depot facilities are well maintained, and contractor management.
Key Responsibilities:
Fleet Readiness
Charge electric buses in accordance with fleet charging schedules and operational requirements.
Refuel diesel and other fleet vehicles as required.
Conduct daily fleet checks and report defects or maintenance issues.
Move and position vehicles within the depot as directed.
Ensure vehicles are available, clean, and prepared for operational requirements.
Assist with vehicle presentations for inspections, registrations, and audits.
Vehicle Cleaning & Presentation
Maintain high standards of vehicle presentation both internally and externally.
Ensure cleaning equipment and supplies are maintained and available.
Basic Repairs & Maintenance (R&M)
Undertake minor repairs and maintenance activities within competency and training limits. (Replace consumable items such as wiper blades, light globes, fluids, and other basic components)
Depot & Facility Maintenance
Perform lawn mowing, edging, gardening, and general grounds maintenance.
Conduct routine inspections of depot facilities and identify maintenance requirements.
Maintain workshop and storage areas in a clean and orderly condition.
Support waste management and environmental compliance activities.
Contractor Coordination
Act as the depot point of contact for visiting contractors.
Coordinate site access and induction requirements.
Maintain fleet charging, refuelling, and cleaning records.
Assist with inventory control of cleaning products, fuel, and depot consumables.
Assist management with general depot administration tasks.
Safety Responsibilities:
Comply with all NSBC Group policies, procedures, and safety requirements.
Report hazards, incidents, and near misses immediately.
Participate in safety meetings, training, and toolbox talks.
Ensure environmental controls are maintained during all activities.
Support a positive safety culture across the depot.
Key Skills & Experience:
Essential: Current HR Licence.
Able to drive a manual transmission vehicle
Ability to safely operate and manoeuvre heavy vehicles.
Experience working in transport, logistics, fleet, workshop, or maintenance environments.
Good communication and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Basic computer and administrative skills.
Strong commitment to workplace safety.
Desirable:
Experience with electric vehicle charging systems.
Experience in fleet operations or depot management.
Mechanical experience.
First Aid Certificate.
Traffic Management qualifications.
