Fixed Term Temporary full-time / 29/06/2026 - 06/09/2026 with possible extension not exceeding 12 months
This role is based in a remote First Nations community on Palm Island, offering a rare opportunity to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As Nurse Unit Manager, you will play a central role in delivering culturally safe, community-centred care and supporting efforts to close the gap in First Nations health inequalities.
You wil be providing integrated and culturally appropriate healthcare services to the Palm Island community.
As the Nurse Unit Manager of the Joyce Palmer Health Service, you will lead a multidisciplinary team and oversee a facility that includes:
A 24-hour Accident & Emergency department
Eleven inpatient acute beds
A four-chair renal satellite haemodialysis unit
On-site pharmacy and x-ray services
Additional services delivered through Townsville HHS include oral health, community mental health, midwifery, and specialist outreach programs, all with a strong focus on timely, accessible, and culturally appropriate care.

Base fortnightly wage rate: $5364.30 - $5824.20
4 to 6 weeks annual leave with 14%-17.5% loading
12.75% employer contribution to superannuation

Successful applicants may be eligible for RANIP (Rural and Remote Incentive Package)
Requirements:
Qualification: Bachelor of Nursing or equivalent certification relevant to the position is mandatory.
Travel: This position may be required to travel to (via small planes or ferry), and work at, other facilities located within the THHS, e.g., participate in clinical activities or meetings for planning, quality, performance and education. This may involve day and/or overnight stays. The successful applicant must be able to commit to this requirement.
